Your future role at QRT

As a Software Engineer, you will operate at the heart of the firm’s trading and investment activities. We design and deliver the platforms, infrastructure, and analytical tools that enable our strategies to perform in the world’s most competitive financial markets. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to join one of several specialist teams and work alongside exceptional engineers, quants, and researchers, contributing to systems that demand the highest standards of performance, reliability, and scalability. 

There are six teams you could join, descriptions of which can be found below: 

  1. This team of engineers operates the infrastructure that connects QRT to global financial markets, brokers, and data providers. These systems are critical for delivering real-time market data and enabling order execution with speed, reliability, and precision. By providing the seamless, high-performance connectivity that underpins our trading strategies, they play a central role in driving QRT’s growth and maintaining our competitive advantage. Working at the intersection of software engineering, networking, and market microstructure, the team designs solutions that scale globally and evolve with rapidly changing markets, ensuring we maintain our competitive edge through world-class trading technology.    
  2. This team architects and delivers the platforms powering order generation across QRT’s systematic and discretionary trading desks. Our technology provides a sophisticated, high-performance interface for algorithmic quant developers, seamlessly integrated with our proprietary market access infrastructure that manages ultra-low-latency market data and order flow. Collaboration is fundamental to our success: we work in close partnership with other Engineering teams and trading desk quants, sharing code, insights, and technical expertise to deliver robust, scalable, and latency-sensitive solutions that directly impact trading performance. 
  3. This team design, build, and maintain QRT’s global, cross-asset trading system, supporting activity across all markets. Using C++, C#, and Python, they develop robust system services that run seamlessly on both Windows and Linux. Our technology underpins critical trading functions - managing active positions, calculating real-time risk exposure, and serving as the authoritative source of data for regulatory filings. Handling vast volumes of real-time financial data, the system is engineered for reliability, scalability, and compliance in a fast-moving trading environment. 
  4. This team builds and maintains QRT’s global platform for profit & loss reporting and risk management, serving every product line and trading desk across the firm. With a cross-asset mandate spanning Equities, Derivatives, FX, Fixed Income, Commodities, and Crypto, the team delivers systems that provide real-time insight into trading performance and risk exposure at a global scale. Joining this team, you will gain hands-on experience with enterprise-grade software engineering practices, from modern DevOps and cloud-native architecture to AI-driven analytics, while contributing to a growing technology stack that includes AWS, Kotlin, Python, and ClickHouse. This is a chance to develop solutions that sit at the heart of the firm’s decision-making and risk control framework. 
  5. This team is responsible for the technology that drives the firm’s pricing and risk analytics. Operating across EMEA and APAC, the team brings together technologists with a passion for solving complex numerical challenges and delivering high-performance, solutions. Currently, the team is engineering a next-generation analytics platform that offers a unified interface to the core components powering pricing and risk calculations. By integrating QRT’s derivatives pricing library with the broader risk management infrastructure, this platform enables fast, precise, and scalable analysis across all asset classes - providing the analytical foundation for critical trading and risk decisions. 
  6. This team is developing QRT’s next-generation ultra-low-latency HFT execution platform in modern C++20/23. Built from the ground up less than two years ago, the platform leverages modern static polymorphism to deliver high levels of abstraction, expressiveness, and type-safety — all with zero runtime overhead. This work sits at the intersection of low-level systems and networking engineering and quantitative strategy development, requiring close collaboration with quant developers to ensure seamless implementation and performance at scale. 

Your current skillset  

  • Eligibility: Penultimate or final year students pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in a STEM discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related Engineering), on track for a 2:1 or above from a leading institution.  
  • Passion for Technology: Genuine enthusiasm for technology, problem-solving, and innovation. 
  • Technical Skills: 
  • We value hands-on software engineering experience gained through personal projects, open-source work, hobbies, or academic studies. 
  • Proficiency in C++, C#, or Python.  
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and tools such as Git, SQL, GCC, and Linux. 
  • Mindset: Proactive, curious, and unafraid to ask questions. Able to identify and implement optimisations that improve performance. 
  • Approach: Self-motivated, results-driven, and entrepreneurial in spirit. 

Interviewing 

  • Apply Online - Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply early. 
  • Technical Assessment - If your application is shortlisted, you’ll be invited to complete a coding challenge to assess your technical skills. 
  • Shortlisting - Our engineering teams will review your background and coding challenge performance to select candidates for the next stage. 
  • Assessment Centre - Shortlisted candidates will attend an onsite assessment centre at our offices. This includes a group technical activity and interviews with the engineering teams you may work with. 
  • Offer - Successful candidates will receive an offer to join QRT.
