What's the role?
Outstanding opportunity for a senior reporter to join Australia's largest media organisation in a permanent full time position. Work for NewsCorp's breaking newswire service providing valuable content for all mastheads, news.com.au and the Australian as well as external clients.
We are after a dynamic journalist who is a self-starter; the sort of person who walks into a newsroom brimming with ideas and hungry to work on the biggest yarns.
The person in this role will work within our existing team to cover political news out of Parliament House, be it a breaking news story, an inquiry or a fiery senate estimates session. There will be opportunities for travel.
Key responsibilities:
Pitch and generate original news stories and ideas that resonate with readers
Break political news stories
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date calendar
File engaging copy to strict deadlines
Develop and maintain good relationships with key political players
Liaise with the news desk on daily coverage, planning and key events
Respond to breaking news events outside of rostered hours when required
Who are you?
At least 4 years of journalism experience, ideally in a political reporting role
Team player with strong communication skills who can cover complex topics in a way all Australians can engage with
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality copy under tight deadlines
Have a proven network of contacts, or the ability to develop such connections quickly
Familiarity with the fast paced demands of a newsroom environment and the ability to thrive under pressure
