What you'll do:

The Viasat Engineering function is responsible for designing, building and maintaining a robust and flexible global satellite and ground network that incorporates Viasat and partner assets to deliver internet services to customers worldwide.

We're seeking highly motivated software engineer interns to join our teams, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Viasat's robust and flexible global satellite network.

The day-to-day:

• Interns will work on variety of projects including embedded (C, C++) to full stack web services development (Python, Go, AWS, Google Cloud)

• You will work with ground systems project teams, getting hands-on experience solving problems, building, operating and validating software components for Viasat

• Develop, test, and deploy software applications

• Implement automation solutions to streamline workflows and reduce manual efforts

• Participate in code reviews and regular team meetings

• Collaborate with other developers and product managers

• Adding new features to internal tools

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues to maintain a high performing product

Internship Program Details: 

• You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.  

• Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.  

• To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable. 

 

What you'll need:

Requirements: 

• Education:  

• • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field

• • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2026 and August 2027 

• Internship Dates: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for the full duration of the internship program as outlined in the cohort dates below. Limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:  

• • Cohort 1: May 18, 2026 – August 14, 2026 

• • Cohort 2: June 22, 2026 – September 18, 2026 

Additional:

• Coding proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Python, Golang, Java, C/C++, Rust, Clojure, or similar languages
• Familiarity or experience working with cloud services like GCP and/or AWS
• Demonstrated ability to think out of the box, taking up initiatives and problem solving

What will help you on the job:

• Coursework or experience in designing, writing, and testing software in at least one of the following domains: embedded systems, networking, communications, web services/full stack, data & analytics
• Prior experience with modern software engineering tools and processes such as GitHub, Jira, K8s, Agile/Scrum, CI/CD, DevOps
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

Salary range:$20.91 - $56.97 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly :At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
