Position Overview:
This is a senior-level, high-impact role focused on designing, optimizing, and leading cloud-native solutions in the AWS commercial cloud in support of NOAA’s cloud-first strategy. This position is ideal for engineers with a strong full stack development background and experience working with AWS services in secure, high-availability environments. You will be contributing to the development and optimization of cloud-native applications that directly support National Weather Service’s life-saving mission.
We are seeking a Solutions Architect with deep technical expertise, leadership skills, and
proven experience in AWS cloud migrations, modernization, and enterprise integration. In this role, you will also help shape BLN24’s cloud practice, mentor engineers, and contribute to technical writing for proposals and solutioning efforts that expand our delivery capabilities.

We are seeking a Solutions Architect with deep technical expertise, leadership skills, and
proven experience in AWS cloud migrations, modernization, and enterprise integration. In this role, you will also help shape BLN24’s cloud practice, mentor engineers, and contribute to technical writing for proposals and solutioning efforts that expand our delivery capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Refactor and optimize legacy applications for performance and scalability in the AWS cloud.
- Develop and maintain both back-end and front-end components of mission-critical applications.
- Ensure seamless integration with NOAA’s enterprise systems, including data lakes, APIs, and cloud-native platforms.
- Conduct application testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software developers, cloud engineers, QA analysts, and government stakeholders.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices for continuous deployment
- Define technical roadmaps, architecture patterns, and migration strategies for enterprise systems.
- Mentor engineers and developers; establish best practices for cloud engineering across the team.
- Support the growth of BLN24’s AWS and cloud modernization practice through thought leadership and reusable solution accelerators.
- Ensure seamless integration with NOAA’s enterprise systems, including data lakes, APIs, and cloud-native platforms.
- Support CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices, and infrastructure-as-code approaches.
- Contribute to technical proposal writing, solution narratives, and architecture diagrams for RFPs/RFIs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering, cloud architecture, or full stack development.
- Strong background in AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, and CloudFormation.
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise cloud solutions in secure, high-availability environments.
- Proficiency with one or more back-end languages (Java, Python, Node.js) and modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular).
- Experience with Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and tools such as Git, Jenkins, or Terraform.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional)
- Prior experience leading federal government cloud migration or modernization projects.
- Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS).
- Familiarity with data integration, APIs, and cloud-native data platforms (e.g., Redshift, Aurora, Lake Formation).
- Demonstrated contributions to technical writing (proposals, whitepapers, solution briefs).
Soft Skills
- Proven leadership ability with experience mentoring technical teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
