About the role

AGL is seeking a Senior Grid Engineer to join our Grid Scale Technologies team.

Based in Melbourne or Brisbane, you will play a pivotal role in integrating renewable energy sources like BESS, Pumped Hydro, Solar, Wind and Hybrid into the national grid.

What you will be doing:

As a Senior Grid Engineer, you will ensure seamless integration of renewable energy projects into the national grid, ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory standards. You’ll address power quality, voltage regulation, and grid stability, while collaborating with stakeholders including AEMO, TNSP, and OEMs to drive successful grid connection outcomes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet grid connection requirements.

  • Maintain communication with AEMO, network service providers, OEMs, and consultants.

  • Lead GPS negotiations and CPS meetings and generator registration.

  • Provide technical guidance on grid connection design and support operations teams.

  • Adhere to and promote AGL’s health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Stay updated with AEMC/AEMO/TNSP regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with R0/R1/R2 regulations.

  • Develop Python scripts for PSSE and PSCAD to automate grid connection studies.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably Power Engineering).

  • Experience in a similar role within the energy sector.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

  • Ability to resolve grid connection challenges and identify opportunities within the NEM.

  • Experience with NEM connections, generator registration, and GPS negotiations.

  • Commissioning experience including Hold Point testing.

  • Proficiency in PSSE, PSCAD, and/or PowerFactory for power systems modelling.
