About the Department

The Environment and Energy department is seeking a Scale House Attendant to process transactions at drop-off facilities. These citizen drop-off facilities provide an opportunity for residents to properly manage household hazardous waste, recyclables, and problem materials like computers, televisions, and appliances.

Location and hours:
This position requires staff to work at multiple locations including the following sites: Brooklyn Park Transfer Station, 8100 Jefferson Hwy Brooklyn Park, MN 55445, South Hennepin Recycling and Problem Waste Drop-off Center, 1400 West 96th Street, Bloomington, MN 55431, and/or Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC), 505 N 5th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55401. Public transportation is only available to the HERC facility. There is no public transportation to the other two locations. Work hours will be Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.mNew Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.  

About the position type:
This position is full-time benefit earning position.
This position is internally classified as an Office Specialist I.

In this position, you will:
  • Operate Point of Sale (POS), and process financial transactions. 
  • Greet customers and answer questions in a friendly and professional manner by phone or in person.
  • Record all business transactions efficiently.
  • Provide customers with the proper informational literature and inventory informational literature weekly.
  • Access the county website for the Green Disposal Guide to answer citizens' questions.
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • One or more full-time equivalent years of office clerical experience.
    • Six months of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.
    • Note: Education may be substituted for experience on a semester (12 credits) basis.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and stand for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation.
 Nice to have:
  • Experience: 
    • Working in a high-volume customer service center. 
    • Using Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or Access.
    • Using call center systems.
    • Providing customer service in person and by telephone
  • Ability to:
    • Perform cash transactions or process electronic payments. 
    • Use Paradigm software to record all commercial hauler and citizen transactions. 
    • Follow detailed instructions.
    • Work independently with minimal direction.
