We’re looking for a Senior Content Designer to shape the language and experience of BMO’s digital product application flows. In this role, you’ll go beyond writing—your influence will extend to how content is planned, designed, and integrated into the product development process from the very beginning.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners to create application journeys that are clear, accessible, and aligned with BMO’s language guidelines. As a senior member of the team, you’ll also play a key role in building content maturity—championing accessibility, embedding content-first thinking into our design culture, and leading initiatives that make content a strategic driver of customer experience.

What You’ll Do
    •    Lead content design for digital application flows, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and alignment with BMO’s brand and language guidelines.
    •    Shape early product strategy by advocating for content at the initial stages of design and discovery.
    •    Champion accessibility in content – applying inclusive design principles to support all customers, including those with disabilities or low digital literacy.
    •    Collaborate cross-functionally with design, product, research, compliance, and technology partners to create seamless end-to-end experiences.
    •    Establish and maintain content standards, patterns, and systems that scale across BMO’s products.
    •    Mentor and influence peers by modeling best practices in content design and coaching other team members.
    •    Drive cultural change by embedding content-first practices into design and delivery processes.
    •    Measure and improve impact through user research, testing, and data-driven iteration.

What We’re Looking For
    •    5+ years of experience in content design, UX writing, or content strategy within a product or service design environment.
    •    Proven ability to create clear, concise, and accessible digital content.
    •    Strong knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
    •    Experience working with design systems and contributing to scalable content patterns.
    •    Demonstrated ability to influence and lead initiatives, driving content strategy forward at a program or organizational level.
    •    Excellent collaboration skills with designers, researchers, product managers, and developers.
    •    Experience in the financial services sector (preferred but not required).

Creates, develops, and executes a brand content strategy taking into account the customer journey and intended customer experience. Contributes to the planning, development and management of content and produces content guidelines, assessments, models, plans, architecture and frameworks. Monitors the target audience’s needs and ensures content for various digital experiences, social media campaigns, surveys, etc. is usable, well-structured, easily found and aligned with organization brand and style guidelines. Applies knowledge digital properties and platforms to recommend, design and optimize content structure.

  • Defines and develops key brand messages for content.
  • Ensures that appropriate content is shown to a user in the right place and in the best format.
  • Creates and communicates a content value proposition.
  • Establishes content workflow, management and governance.
  • Creates and disseminates content standards documents, such as style, tone of voice, and accessibility guidelines.
  • Prioritizes, plans, delivers, and maintains content for multiple channels and audiences.
  • Carries out user research and usability testing.
  • Creates content models and gives recommendations for taxonomy and metadata.
  • Uses analytics tools to monitor content traffic, engagement, leads and conversions after content is published.
  • Optimizes content in-line with SEO best practices, carries out keyword research.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

$75,900.00 - $141,900.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
