Position: GIS Technician
Work Location: Fort Polk, LA
Salary Range: $58,000 - $63,200
NOTE: Must reside within 50 miles of Fort Polk, LA – Directorate of Public Works
Description: The GIS Technician will be responsible for performing data collection (GPS), basic geospatial analysis, spatial data updates/creation, and data validation to ensure GIS records adhere to Army Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) and Army Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs). Responsible for providing standard and dynamic data-driven maps to support customer requirements, providing technical reports, assisting in the management of ArcGIS Portal, and field data collection efforts as needed.
Duties:
- Reviews, analyzes, and updates the enterprise GIS data in compliance with established data standards.
- Provides detailed, complete, and accurate data analysis in support of customer projects.
- Assists with developing best practices to address customer needs for managing and updating geospatial data to meet specified requirements.
- Creates and maintains standard cartographic maps for printing and ArcGIS Portal.
- Creates custom topographic maps for projects and customer requests.
- Assists in reviewing GIS policies, regulations, and guidance to improve standard workflow processes.
- Provides input to recommendations to improve GIS data integrity and data relationships.
- Converts CADD and other geospatial data to SDSFIE GIS format for inclusion in the enterprise GIS database.
- Collects field data using Mapping Grade GPS, camera, and other tools to validate or update GIS data.

Proficiency: ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Experience Builder, SQL Server, Data Management, and Microsoft Office.
Qualifications:
- Degree in GIS or related technical field
- Minimum of 1 year experience utilizing geospatial software and applications: ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Portal.
- Per Government contracting requirements, the candidate must be able to clearly speak, read, and write in the English language, be a US citizen, and pass and maintain a National Agency Check Investigation.
