The Information Technology (IT) Mission Critical Apps Section of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) requires an Applications and Infrastructure Analyst II who is self-motivated and organized with exceptional technical, application development, testing and interpersonal skills. This position will analyze business requirement, specifications and meet with Subject Matter Expers (SME) with a focus of creating a suite of automated tests for both 3rf party and custom developed applications – for a portfolio of mission-critical EPS applications. This position is part of a team that provides application support for business users and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead the automation of manual testing processes across custom-built and vendor-supported applications, leveraging DevOps methodologies to enhance efficiency, reliability and continuous delivery.
- Create automated test cases using Tricentis Tosca, ensuring test cases are documented.
- Additional activities could include (a) developing new solutions and (b) maintaining and supporting existing solutions.
- Support EPS’s Records Management Systems (RMS) and the associated systems. The Records Management System integrates with various levels of IT including networking and infrastructure.
- The Applications Analyst also provides solutions for various projects at the EPS. The Applications analyst discusses the business requirement with clients, researches feasible solutions and their impacts on the current business process and presents viable solutions. The Applications Analyst designs, develops, tests and deploys the solution.
- Work with the business Analysts to analyze the needs of the business and propose technical solutions to satisfy those requirements. Analysis involves engaging clients to define the detailed requirement by going through use cases and screen mockups. Once the requirement have materialized, analysis is done to identify possible solutions based on the cost, feasibility and ease of use.
- Assisting with Operational and Strategic Planning, including assisting with the development and maintenance of technology roadmaps.
- Providing guidelines to their peers from time to time. The Analyst organizes and holds knowledge-sharing sessions and participates in deciding roadmaps for projects or technologies: they also provide guidelines and suggestions to the management team to improve current business processes.
- Working collaboratively with various members of the IT Branch to ensure that all application issues are addressed in a timely manner to minimize disruption to the provision of IT services.
- Performing related duties as required.
- Degree in a related discipline and four (4) years relevant experience OR Post secondary diploma in a related discipline and five (5) years relevant experience OR one (1) year related certificate and seven (7) years relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience participating in software quality assurance and testing initiatives, including test planning, execution, defect tracking and collaboration with development reams to ensure delivery of high=quality software solutions.
- Experience in testing and testing methodologies, especially around automation and DevOps methodologies is an asset.
- Knowledge and/or experience in Tricentis Tosca or similar tools would be an asset.
- Experience in Microsoft.NET, VB.NET, C#, ASP.NET and Microsoft Team Foundation Service (TFS) is an asset.
- Experience working in a policing organization, particularly in the area of records management (NicheRMS) is an asset.
- Azure DevOps, HTML, HTML5, CSS, Javascript, REST and SOAP Web Apls, ReactJS, Powershell experience would be considered an asset.
- Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or other Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) certification would be an asset.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of software development principles, processes and methodologies.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
- Ability to excel in a team environment.
Hours of Work:
33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of variable hours of work program.
Salary Range:
21M, Salary Grade: 032, $52.57 - $67.09 (Hourly), $3,549.00 - $4,529.00 (Bi-Weekly), $92,629.29 - $118,208.14 (Annually).
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
