Description
The Imaging and Theranostics Operations Manager is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing advanced imaging and radiopharmaceutical therapy services, with a focus on clinical trial integration and program development. This role ensures excellence in imaging operations and growth of the theranostics service line.
The Manager collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while advancing clinical research and innovation. They coordinate all activities of the Imaging and Theranostics Department, performing duties personally or through designated staff. Responsibilities include managing the operations and staff of multiple Radiology Department, administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients under physician direction (if certified) to ensure viable images are obtained, and acquiring diagnostic images from other imaging modalities in accordance with certifications.

Team Leadership
- Lead and oversee support staff, providing guidance, coaching, corrective counseling, development, and mentorship to ensure a cohesive and high-performing team. Set goals and provide motivation and support to the team.
- Provides fair and consistent leadership by fostering a skilled and motivated workforce through frequent department meetings to assess policies, procedures, and operational concerns.
- Facilitate leader rounding activities to gather feedback and improve leadership effectiveness.
- Leads by directing, delegating, and supervising tasks as needed to ensure the best possible delivery of service.
Requirements
Essential Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Team Management
- Direct daily operations of multiple imaging and theranostic centers.
- Schedule staff work assignments and ensure adequate coverage.
- Lead and oversee support staff, providing guidance, coaching, corrective counseling, development, and mentorship to ensure a cohesive and high-performing team. Set goals and provide motivation and support to the team.
- Provides fair and consistent leadership by fostering a skilled and motivated workforce through frequent department meetings to assess policies, procedures, and operational concerns.
- Facilitate leader rounding activities to gather feedback and improve leadership effectiveness.
- Leads by directing, delegating, and supervising task as needed to ensure the best possible delivery of service
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients to detect diseases, using radiation producing and detective equipment, under direction of physician ensuring viable images are obtained. Acquire diagnostic images from other imaging modalities that may be available in accordance with certifications
2. Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance
- Develop and implement operational and strategic plans.
- Maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, ALARA, ACR, ASTRO, state/federal regulations).
- Oversee implementation of imaging systems, interfaces, and emerging technologies.
- Monitor and improve quality assurance programs for imaging and patient care.
3. Radiation Safety Officer Duties
- Ensure compliance with all radiation safety regulations and guidelines.
- Conduct audits, risk assessments, and monitor radiation exposure for staff/patients.
- Manage Radioactive Materials license and Certificate of X-Ray.
- Investigate/report safety incidents and serve as primary contact for regulatory bodies.
- Provide radiation safety training and implement protection programs.
4. Financial and Operational Management
- Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Resolve patient care and operational issues promptly.
- Oversee inventory, supply management, and equipment maintenance to support daily operations.
5. Vendor and Relationship Management
- Maintain positive vendor/supplier relationships.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration across all practice departments.
6. Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local healthcare regulations.
- Maintain required filings, logs, and records in an organized, accessible manner.
- Participate in Patient Safety Organization activities.
- Oversee proper billing practices in collaboration with Revenue Cycle.
7. Customer Service
- Promote a culture of excellent patient care and service.
- Incorporate patient feedback into process improvements.
- Champion staff training on customer service and patient experience.
8. Professional Development and Industry Compliance
- Stay current with healthcare regulations, radiation safety standards, and new imaging technologies.
- Encourage staff engagement in continuous quality improvement and compliance monitoring.
9. Clinical Trial Engagement
- Act as the primary liaison between imaging/theranostic teams and clinical research staff.
- Support imaging protocol development, image readiness, dosimetry, and therapy workflows for radiopharmaceutical trials.
- Ensure documentation, compliance, and quality control for all imaging-related clinical trials.
- Participate in investigator meetings and site initiation visits.
10. Technical/Clinical Oversight (if certified)
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients under physician direction.
- Acquire diagnostic images (Nuclear Medicine and CT, if dual certified).
- Calibrate, maintain, and safely dispose of radiopharmaceuticals and isotopes.
- Provide patient education, explain procedures, and ensure safety precautions.
- Perform quality control on equipment and imaging processes.
Position Qualifications/Requirements
Education:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine
Certifications/Licenses:
- Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMTCB or ARRT).
- State license in Nuclear Medicine Technology (as required).
- Dual certification in Computed Tomography (ARRT) preferred.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
Experience:
· Four years of Nuclear Medicine/PET experience.
· Two years of supervisory experience.
