About the Department
This position provides HIV pre and post-test counseling at the Downtown Detention Center located at 448 Second Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37201.
This position will work nights from 4:30pm to 1:00am.
Position Duties
- Provides educational information regarding STD/HIV in order to increase community awareness, knowledge, and prevention.
- Provides direct services in a clinic, non-clinical, correctional, and non-traditional setting.
- Conducts pre and post-test counseling services for patients taking an HIV test.
- Counsel’s patients on HIV and STD prevention measures, test results, program services, and procedural guidelines.
- Assist/provide oral swab screening via HIV OraQuick and assist/provide screening for gonorrhea and chlamydia.
- Accurately and promptly documents services and observations in the client’s record.
- Collect laboratory specimens as needed; attends training and in-service classes as appropriate.
- Gain support and cooperation of public officials, community groups and agencies relative to health information concerns.
- Assists in the development, promotion and implementation of a variety of health information, STD / HIV screenings, and education programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- Effective written and oral communications skills, group presentation skills and ability to operate audio-visual equipment.
- Must be able to work a regular schedule consistently.
- Must be willing to submit and able to pass Davidson County Sheriff’s Office background check as condition of employment.
- Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
Other Qualifications
- College degree.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Familiarity with venipuncture.
- History of working with diverse populations and working as member of interdisciplinary team.
