CNA - Certified Nursings Assistant
Hyman Fine Elementary School
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist professional staff with students in the classroom to meet academic goals and objectives and implement positive behavioral and medical supports.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintains confidentiality of medical and educational related concerns in the school setting.
- Collaborate with student’s school nurse, teacher and therapists to help provide optimal educational experience for the student
- Demonstrate professional behavior when interacting with school staff, parents and students.
- Self-directed and works within the scope of the job description
- Takes directives and follows through with a high level of student care
- Demonstrates effective communication with the student, supervising nurse, classroom teacher, co-workers, and others.
- Seeking assistance/guidance/information as needed
- Safely manage and operate equipment. Clean and maintain the equipment
- Follows established school department policies and procedures with regard to: attendance, work hours, safety procedures.
- Works with students individually and in small groups.
- Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing academic and behavioral skills according to individual student needs.
- Assists with individual, class, and school positive behavioral supports providing a safe, learning environment.
- Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, and other related noninstructional areas.
- Accompany students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with medical support and supervision.
- Assists teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students.
- Toileting as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students.
- Support the medical needs of the students under the direction of the building nurse
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications Profile
- Prior experience working with students with autism/ medically fragile
- CNA, ABA and safety care experience preferred
- Highly Qualified
- Current CPR and CNA certification
