The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an opening for a flexible and community-focused Part-Time Public Services Liaison to join our Neighborhood Library Services (NLS) Division. This position combines both circulation and information services. The Public Services Liaison will play a key role in connecting patrons to library resources, while also supporting programs, outreach, and cross-departmental coordination.

Reporting directly to the branch manager, this role has varied and engaging tasks in a collaborative environment with opportunities for professional development.  Join us in this exciting role that bridges library services and community engagement!

This position will require you to work on-site, occasionally in the evening and on weekends, and possibly at other library branches throughout the city.

Department: Neighborhood Library Services

Location:  Johnston Square branch at 1100 Greenmount Avenue, Baltimore, MD

Salary: $20.90/hr.

Job Type: Part-Time, On-site and possibly at other branch locations.

Summary of Duties:

  • Work under the supervision of the Branch Manager.

  • Responsible for assisting with collection development, reference services, readers advisory with emphasis on digital resource sources, literacy needs and assistance with programming.

  • Responsible for shelving returned library materials.

  • Assists customers with computers, printers, photocopiers, and other equipment.

  • Navigates customers through the Library’s website and its digital platforms and databases.

  • Assists customers in finding materials in the catalog and locating on the shelves.

  • Perform routine circulation and office support duties.

  • Register customers for library cards and maintain customer library records; charge and discharge library materials; handle customer registration problems; provide explanation of circulation regulations to customers.

  • Collect fees from customers and operation of cash registers and similar library equipment.

  • Answer telephones; answer directional questions and refer customers to appropriate personnel; assist customers with operation of library equipment.

  • Maintains confidentiality with customer information.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates (AA) Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Two years of customer service experience directly with the general public.

  • Experience with MS Office suite, web browsers, and Windows software.

  • Physical Requirements: Physical exertion such as standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; pushing loaded equipment; or recurring lifting of heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a public library or non-profit organization.

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and communities.

  • Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, French, Korean, or other foreign languages.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience providing excellent customer service to a broad range of customers in an urban environment.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels. Strong communication skills - oral, written, and interpersonal.

  • Flexible, energetic, and collaborative nature.

  • Thorough knowledge and skills with operating contemporary computer equipment, hardware, and software, including working in an online and cloud environment.

  • Ability and willingness to learn about and use new and specialized technology and software.

  • Ability to explain complex technical procedures to staff and public with patience, thoroughness, and support.

  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
