We are seeking a Behavioral Health Medical Assistant (BHMA) to join our healthcare team. Under the supervision of a Behavioral Health Medical Provider (BHMP) and in collaboration with Registered Nurses (RNs), the BHMA provides both direct patient care and critical administrative support. This role plays a key part in ensuring patients receive high-quality, recovery-focused care in a welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide recovery-focused patient interactions at all times.
  • Obtain and document vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature); report abnormal findings.
  • Perform venipuncture and collect body fluid samples for diagnostic purposes.
  • Prepare and send laboratory samples for processing.
  • Assist with prescription refills and prior authorizations per provider approval.
  • Notify patients of test results and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Support patients in scheduling with BHMPs, RNs, and case managers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records in the EMR system.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and universal precautions in handling PHI and bodily fluids.
  • Assist with document management, pharmacy refill requests, and outside referrals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of clinical/lab areas.
  • Support the mission of promoting recovery and patient-centered care.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED and Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited MA training program (CAAHEP, ABHES, or other U.S. Dept. of Education recognized agency).
  • Associate degree in Medical Assisting with at least 1 year of behavioral health work experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Valid AZ driver’s license, vehicle with insurance, and ability to meet driving guidelines.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, supplies, and inventory processes.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and data entry.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with patients, providers, and team members.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and teamwork.
