About the Department

Position Duties

Under direction of the Director and Chief Building Official, assists a Chief Building Inspector with the management of Code Enforcement personnel charged with enforcement of the Cleveland and Ohio Building Codes, and other regulations related to the location, design, construction and maintenance of structures and premises.  Including registration and licensing inspections as mandated by the City of Cleveland Codified Ordinances. Manages functions, as assigned, related to property maintenance inspections, code enforcement inspections, administrative citations and related civil and criminal actions. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED or higher is required. Ten years of full-time paid combined experience in the construction trades and building inspection for work governed by the Ohio Building Code is required. (Substitution: upto to five years of full-time experience in property maintenance or code enforcement inspections may be substituted for experience lacking) Two years of supervisory experience is also required. Must be adequately proficient in Microsoft Office Suites. Strong organizational and communication skills are required. Must be familiar with and able to exhibit knowledge of the Ohio Building and Residential Codes. A knowledge of the Cleveland Building, Residential, and Zoning Codes is preferred. Valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required. Must have and maintain full Certification as an Ohio Board of Building Standards Building Inspector as well as an Ohio Residential Building Inspector.
