Description
The Industrial Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electrical systems and equipment at a mining site. This role serves as the site’s highest-level licensed electrician, ensuring all electrical work meets regulatory standards and supports operational reliability, safety, and efficiency. The position requires strong technical knowledge, field leadership, and a commitment to safety in a high-risk industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems for mining operations, including conveyors, hoists, pumps, lighting, motor control centers and mobile or fixed processing equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues involving high-voltage systems, control panels, PLCs, VFDs, and power distribution equipment.
- Perform inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance according to MSHA and NEC standards.
- Promote, support and enforce safe work practices, including proper Lockout/Tagout procedures, hazard identification, and use of PPE.
- Lead and mentor helpers and junior electricians, provide on-the-job training and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Train helpers and operations staff for effective assistance during plant outages
- Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and one-line diagrams to plan and execute work safely and accurately.
- Collaborate with vendors, maintenance, and operations personnel to support equipment reliability and site efficiency.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with local, state, and federal regulations (including MSHA, OSHA, and NEC).
- Respond to emergency electrical issues during shift or on-call periods, minimizing downtime and safety risks.
- Maintain accurate records of warranties, maintenance work, inspections, and repairs using CMMS or logbooks.
- Support capital projects, new installations, and major system upgrades as needed.
- Provide reporting and recommendations to Operations Manager(s) and Senior Management.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or associate’s degree in electrical technology preferred.
- Valid Electrician License (state-recognized).
- 10+years of experience in industrial or mining electrical systems.
- Deep knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including 480V–13.8kV equipment, MCCs, SCADA systems, switchgear, and instrumentation.
- Experience working in surface and/or underground mining environments is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout procedures, arc flash protection, and site-specific safety programs.
- Skilled in use of multimeters, insulation testers, megohmmeters, thermal imaging tools, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings, including mentoring junior electricians.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
Certification Requirements:
- Valid Electrician License in Florida
- MSHA Part 48 or Part 46 Certification.
- MSHA Electrical Qualification Card or equivalent mine electrical competency (ability to obtain within 90 days).
- OSHA 10-or 30-Hour Training – General Industry or Construction (preferred).
- NFPA 70E Arc Flash Safety Training (preferred).
- CPR/First Aid Certification (willing to obtain).
- Lockout/Tagout and Hazardous Energy Control certification.
