About the Department
The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time positions in the class of Lieutenant at the Yolo County Sheriff's Office.
2.5% for possession of a 2 year degree
7.5% for possession of a 4 year degree
THE POSITION
Under general direction, plans, directs, and supervises the personnel and activities of a major functional operation in the Sheriff's Department’s Office.
Positions allocated to this classification are distinguished from the Captain classification by the overall responsibilities for the supervision of a major functional operation while the latter manages a major division in the Sheriff's Office.

Position Duties
- Plans, assigns, and supervises the work program and personnel in a major functional operation of the Sheriff's Office.
- Directs and supervises the investigation of felonies and misdemeanors; participates in crime enforcement activities; and enforces policies, rules, and regulations related to the Sheriff’s Office.
- Consults with the Sheriff and other key Department employees in the formulation of goals and policies; and assists with the development and implementation of management systems, procedures, and standards for program evaluation and/or service delivery.
- Prepares and reviews administrative reports and correspondence; and supervises the maintenance of records.
- Establishes and schedules assignments; supervises, evaluates, guides, and coordinates the training of subordinate personnel; works with employees to correct deficiencies; and implements discipline and termination procedures.
- Takes immediate charge of activities in a major emergency or in the event of an unusually complex problem or complaints.
- Coordinates training and specific job assignments with the activities of other departmental operations or divisions and other law enforcement agencies.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience, of which two (2) years must be supervisory experience equivalent to the Yolo County Sergeant class at a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified law enforcement agency.
Certificates: Possession of the California POST Supervisory Certificate. The California POST Management Course must be completed within one (1) year of employment or appointment to the Lieutenant class. Failure to complete the California POST Management Certificate within noted duration may be cause for termination or separation from this classification.
License: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.
