​Role Summary:

The RF Validation Engineer (Contract) is responsible for the testing, validation, and optimization of RF systems and circuits within CARIAD’s Hardware Platform Development team. This role focuses on ensuring robust RF performance, EMI/EMC compliance, and seamless integration into automotive hardware platforms. The position requires close collaboration with design engineers, suppliers, and validation teams to deliver high-quality RF solutions for connected vehicles.

Role Responsibilities:

Design & Development 

• Design, simulate, and optimize RF circuits, antennas, and transmission lines for high-frequency applications.
• Collaborate on antenna selection, tuning, and integration for optimal wireless performance
• Review and guide PCB design for RF applications with high-frequency layout considerations
• Evaluate and qualify RF components in collaboration with suppliers
• Work closely with hardware and firmware teams to integrate RF functionality into system designs

Testing & Validation

• Conducts RF measurements and performance evaluations using network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators to verify circuit functionality
• Plan, develop, and execute RF test plans under real-world automotive conditions
• Conduct RF measurements and performance evaluations (e.g., S-parameters, power, noise, EVM)
• Diagnose and troubleshoot RF issues related to signal integrity, interference, and connectivity
• Work with EMI/EMC engineers to perform EMI/EMC pre-compliance and compliance validation to meet global standards (FCC, CE, CISPR, ISO)
• Automate test workflows to improve coverage and efficiency
• Document and communicate test results, design trade-offs, and RF performance reports to stakeholders
• Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure scalable and reliable RF solutions for production

​Required Skills:

• Proficiency with RF test equipment (e.g., network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators)
• Deep understanding of RF circuit design, impedance matching, and transmission line theory
• Experience with PCB design for RF applications (high-frequency layout best practices)
• Familiarity with wireless standards (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, 5G)
• Knowledge of EMI/EMC compliance, testing, and mitigation techniques
• Programming/scripting: Python, MATLAB; working knowledge of C/C++

​Desired Skills:

• Experience with RF simulation tools (ADS, HFSS, CST, or equivalent)
• Knowledge of LNAs, PAs, RF filters, and antenna design
• Background in automotive RF applications (V2X, telematics, infotainment, radar, connectivity)
• Familiarity with automated RF test systems and test automation frameworks

​Years of Relevant Experience:

• 10+ years of experience in RF design, testing, and validation (automotive background preferred)

Workplace Travel

• Occasional travel (up to 20%) to international and domestic locations for technical workshops

​Required Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field

Desired Education: 

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field

Workplace Flexility & Compensation:

• ​This is a contract W2 position
• This role is based in Mountain View, CA. Must be local, no relocation.
• Immediate availability is required. The selected candidate is expected to start promptly upon offer acceptance and pending successful completion of a standard background check and drug screening
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship now or in the future

• The hourly contract rate for this position in Mountain View, CA is $90.00 - 100.00/hour, depending on factors such as qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, and training.
