Roof Bolter Operator

We are seeking a dedicated Roof Bolter Operator to join our Operations team at Carmeuse. In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the safety and stability of our underground mine. Your primary responsibility will be to operate the roof bolter, installing roof bolts to secure the mine's roof and make the ground conditions safe for our workers. Additionally, you will be trained to operate scaling equipment. This position requires a high level of physical fitness and the ability to work in challenging and sometimes uncomfortable conditions.
Qualifications
Must possess basic ability to read and write
Must be competent to evaluate ground safety conditions
Must be able to operate roof bolter
Must be capable of and competent to operate heavy equipment
Working Conditions
Must be able to walk over rough terrain, stoop, reach, climb, kneel, and carry up to 60 pounds
Position includes work in underground mine involving low light, diesel emissions, dust, noise, and humidity
Positions includes work outdoors involving temperature extremes, dust, noise, and humidity
Regular attendance is required. Overtime may be required as determined by management
Duties and Responsibilities
Efficiently operate roof bolter to install roof bolts and make ground conditions safe
Have ability to learn to operate scaling equipment
Inspect areas after bolting and hand scale as necessary
Responsible for equipment condition, appearance and cleanliness
Perform equipment safety checks, write work orders, and fill out production reports
Communicate problem areas to management and co-workers
Maintain regular inventory of bolting supplies and communicate to management
Light maintenance to equipment
Other duties as assigned by management

Responsibilities
- Operate roof bolter to install roof bolts and ensure ground safety.
- Learn to operate scaling equipment and perform hand scaling.
- Inspect areas post-bolting and conduct necessary scaling.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and report any issues.
- Perform safety checks, write work orders, and complete production reports.
- Communicate problem areas to management and colleagues.
- Manage bolting supply inventory and report to management.
- Conduct light maintenance on equipment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Competence in evaluating ground safety conditions.
- Ability to operate roof bolter and heavy equipment.
- Physically fit to walk, stoop, reach, climb, kneel, and lift up to 60 pounds.
- Willingness to work in underground mine conditions (low light, diesel emissions, dust, noise, and humidity).
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, dust, noise, and humidity.
- Regular and punctual attendance is a must.
- Overtime may be required as per management's discretion.
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential.
- A positive attitude and a commitment to safety are key.
