Longwood Gardens is seeking an entrepreneurial, Director of Event Sales to join our team. This individual is responsible for building an emerging, mission-driven business across two sites that drives revenue through strategic sales initiatives, exceptional event coordination and guest service. The Director of Event Sales will build and maintain client relationships and oversee the full lifecycle of event sales—from initial inquiry to post-event follow-up. Key responsibilities include: 

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive, proactive special event business model that includes strategic sales plans that delivers a return on investment and extraordinary client experience..
  • Leading, mentoring, and managing performance of supporting event sales staff.
  • Analyzing sales data and market trends to optimize strategies and forecasts.
  • Collaborating with internal Marketing team to design and implement sales campaigns that prioritize client retention and repeat business.
  • Partnering with culinary, operations, and logistics teams to design customized event solutions.
  • Overseeing end-to-end coordination of events, ensuring alignment with client expectations and timelines.
  • Leading and managing the full event sales process including inquiry response, site tours, proposals, contracts, and execution.
  • Collaborating with internal operations team to ensure smooth operations and team alignment.
  • Cultivating and maintaining long-term relationships with key clients, vendors, and industry contacts.
  • Conducting client meetings, site visits, and follow-ups to ensure satisfaction and drive referrals.
  • Resolving issues quickly and professionally, maintaining a strong customer satisfaction rating.
  • Identifying new business opportunities through research, networking, and industry events.
  • Analyzing competitors and market data to stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Preparing and managing event budgets, ensuring profitability and cost control.
  • Monitoring revenue goals, event-related expenses, and contract profitability.
  • Negotiating pricing and terms to maximize value for both clients and the organization.
  • Training, and evaluating sales team, providing feedback and development plans.
  • Representing the organization at trade shows, networking events, and industry functions. 

We are looking for an individual with combined strong leadership, a deep understanding of event planning, and a results-driven sales mindset. The ideal candidate will possess

  • A bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 5 years of work experience in Event Sales leadership role 
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing a high-performing sales team, including effective coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Deep expertise in developing and executing sales strategies focused on driving revenue growth, improving conversion rates, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities with a proven track record of acquiring new clients and expanding market reach.
  • Hands-on experience planning, coordinating, and executing events of various scales, with a strong grasp of event logistics, operations, and on-site management.
  • Exceptional hospitality, written and verbal communication skills; confident in delivering presentations, negotiating contracts, and building rapport with both clients and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in budget development, financial and performance analysis, identifying trends, and using insights to make data-driven decisions that advance business objectives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook
