The Duval County Clerk of Courts is seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Automation Developer to join our Strategic Initiatives team. This role focuses on designing, developing, and deploying scalable automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and support modernization efforts within the Clerk’s Office. This role offers strategic ownership and in a collaborative team that values excellence and ability to shape architecture and processes.

The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in software development, hands-on experience with robotic process automation (RPA), and a commitment to public service.

The Duval County Clerk of Court is committed to innovation, transparency, and excellence in serving Jacksonville's community. This role contributes directly to efforts to modernize public service through automation.

Position Duties

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and implement process automation opportunities.
  • Analyze and define cross-departmental use cases for automation
  • Develop, test, and maintain attended and unattended automation solutions using tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, UiPath, or equivalent platforms.
  • Write and maintain scripts using Python, JavaScript, and SQL to support automation workflows and system integrations.
  • Monitor and optimize automated processes for reliability, performance, and compliance.
  • Create clear documentation for automation logic, workflows, and procedures in accordance with public records standards.
  • Work with IT and security teams to ensure automations align with infrastructure and data governance requirements.
  • Remain current on automation tools, trends, and best practices relevant to local government and judicial systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in developing automation workflows using platforms such as Microsoft Power Automate, UiPath, or equivalent RPA tools.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, and SQL for scripting, data manipulation, and system integration.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and other data exchange formats used in automation and integration.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), version control, and agile methodologies.
  • Experience with cloud services (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS) and hybrid environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize automation processes for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and their role in scalable automation.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Azure DevOps for build and deployment automation.
  • Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate or UiPath Certified RPA Associate or Advanced RPA Developer
  • AWS or Azure Fundamentals certification
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions through clear documentation and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with a commitment to continuous learning and innovation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, public service-oriented environment.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive data and public records.

Other Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of education and/or professional experience in software development. 
  • Strong experience with SQL.
  • Knowledge of APIs, JSON, XML, and other integration tools or formats.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Candidates must successfully pass the City of Jacksonville background check and fingerprint-based criminal history screening as part of the eligibility process for Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in at least one RPA platform (e.g., UiPath, Power Automate, Automation Anywhere).
  • 1–2 years of experience in robotic process automation (attended and unattended).
  • Preferred experience with Python or JavaScript
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Experience working in or with government agencies, especially within court systems.
  • Understanding of IT compliance, audits, and documentation in a public sector environment.
