About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Director of Technology & Business Systems to lead the technology infrastructure, systems, integrations, security, and technology strategy of a growing, technology-driven organization.

This is not solely a traditional IT management position.

We need a leader who can ensure our technology environment is secure, stable, documented, and scalable while also looking ahead and asking:

How can we make this better?

The right person will be equally comfortable troubleshooting a critical technology issue, evaluating our backup and disaster recovery strategy, working with APIs and system integrations, managing vendors, improving documentation, identifying automation opportunities, and helping leadership determine where AI and emerging technologies can improve the business.

You will inherit an established technology environment with multiple interconnected platforms and will be expected to understand it, document it, strengthen it, and continuously improve it.

What You'll Own

IT Infrastructure, Security & Business Continuity

• Oversee the company's overall IT infrastructure and technology environment.
• Ensure appropriate cybersecurity, access controls, permissions, authentication, and security practices are maintained.
• Own backup, disaster recovery, redundancy, and business continuity planning.
• Regularly validate that backups and recovery processes are functioning as intended — not simply configured.
• Manage hardware, software, networks, endpoints, telecommunications, and technology vendors.
• Establish proactive monitoring and preventative maintenance practices.
• Maintain appropriate documentation for critical systems, credentials, configurations, dependencies, and recovery procedures.
• Identify technology risks and proactively develop solutions before they become operational problems.

Business Systems & Integrations

Our business operates across multiple cloud-based systems, CRMs, communication platforms, telephony solutions, internal tools, and industry-specific applications.

The Director will:

• Understand how systems communicate and depend on one another.
• Own and troubleshoot system integrations.
• Work with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication methods, and third-party integrations.
• Evaluate and improve data flow between platforms.
• Partner with internal and external developers when custom development is required.
• Identify unnecessary manual processes and determine where integrations or automation can replace them.
• Evaluate new platforms and make recommendations based on scalability, security, cost, and business impact.
• Maintain appropriate testing environments and change-management procedures for critical systems.

Automation, AI & Innovation

Technology at our organization is expected to do more than maintain the status quo.

This leader will help identify and execute opportunities involving:

• Workflow automation
• AI-enabled business processes
• CRM integrations
• API-driven solutions
• Internal tools
• Data accessibility and reporting
• Process automation

You do not need to personally develop every solution.

You do need enough technical depth to evaluate solutions, communicate effectively with developers and vendors, understand technical limitations, challenge assumptions, and determine whether a proposed solution makes sense for the business.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

We believe critical technology knowledge should belong to the organization — not one individual.

You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining clear technical documentation, including:

• System architecture
• Standard operating procedures
• Administrative procedures
• Vendor information
• System dependencies

Technology Leadership & Strategy

As a member of leadership, you will be expected to translate technical issues into business decisions.

You will:

• Develop and maintain a technology roadmap.
• Identify technology risks, gaps, and opportunities.
• Recommend investments based on business impact and ROI.
• Help leadership prioritize technology initiatives.
• Manage technology projects from planning through implementation.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who doesn't wait for leadership to identify every technology opportunity.

We want someone who sees a problem, researches it, develops potential solutions, and brings forward a recommendation.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has:

• 5+ years of progressive experience in IT, technology operations, business systems, systems engineering, or related technology roles.
• 2+ years of technology leadership or management experience.
• Strong understanding of cloud-based/SaaS technology environments.
• Experience managing business-critical technology infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals and access management.
• Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
• Working knowledge of APIs, webhooks, integrations, authentication, and data flow between systems.
• Experience implementing or managing system integrations and automation.
• Experience working with software developers, engineers, vendors, or outside technology partners.
• Strong project-management and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to document complex technology environments.
• Ability to troubleshoot technically while also thinking strategically.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical leadership.
