Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
- Assists in preparation of quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right of way maps.
- Assists in preparation of roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, equipment and building plans.
- Learns to use automated roadway programs, hydraulic design programs and or interactive graphics.
- Performs basic drafting and calculations in support of design activities; copies detailed plans and drawings.
- Performs construction inspections.
- Prepares filed notes.
- Serves on a survey crew.
- Works on reproduction of plans.
- Files and makes copies.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Competencies:
Considerable knowledge of:
- Higher mathematics
- Building construction and contractor field procedures.
- Some knowledge of:
- Applicable surveying procedures, standards, and instruments Proficient skill in:
- Performing intermediate drafting
- Performing basic design and drafting
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
- Subject to noise, vibration, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation
- Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, chemicals
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 pounds
- Light work: Lift up to 20 pounds
- Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps
- Balancing-walking, standing, crouching, kneeling, bending, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping
- Talking/Hearing
