We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our Ads Team at SoundCloud. This team plays a crucial role in shaping the strategy for ad experiences, balancing business goals, revenue generation, and an engaging user experience for free listeners. We aim to seamlessly integrate ads into the product, keeping free users happy while encouraging conversions to paid subscriptions.

As a Data Engineer, you will be empowering our Engineers to securely and effortlessly manage, process and consume data. You’ll help maintain and improve our event pipeline, job scheduler, monitoring, storage, queuing and query systems based on Kafka, HDFS, Cassandra, S3/GCS, Spark, Airflow and BigQuery.

You are an experienced Software Engineer or Systems Engineer with a track record of simplifying efficient, scalable and accessible systems, preferably in the domain of databases, data infrastructure and tooling. You are passionate about educating others to efficiently build data pipelines, with a solid background in Java, Scala, Python and SQL. We care much more about your general engineering skills and positive attitude towards getting things done than any prior knowledge of a particular language or framework. 

Experience and Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience 
  • Experience with building production-ready data pipelines and ETL processes
  • Practical experience in deploying ML solutions to production (on a public cloud) with demonstrable real business impact
  • Expert-level SQL skills, with the ability to write and optimize complex queries.
  • Good proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or Go
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle (design, coding, unit testing, code reviews etc.)
  • Solid foundations of algorithms and data structures
  • Solid communication skills and enjoyment working as a part of a cross-functional, solutions oriented team

Bonus Points if you have:

  • Experience working in AI/ML and up-to-date with recent advances in the field
  • Previous experience working on advertisement systems
  • A love for music
