What you will do
As the Engineering Manager at DealMaker, you will lead a growing group of software engineers to deliver new functionality for our users and improve the environment for our entire software development organization. This involves:

Building and Leading a MarTech/AdTech Development Team: Improve DealMaker’s marketing and advertising technology to help clients attract investors.Mentor and guide your team, empowering them to grow and deliver impactful results.
Shaping the Vision and Strategy of DealMaker's Marketing and Advertising Platform: Collaborate with engineering leadership and stakeholders to define a clear vision, strategy, and roadmap for the internal developer platform.
Driving the Development and Delivery of High-Impact Solutions: Work alongside your team to design, build, and scale systems and processes.
Planning and Delivering Platform Improvements: Deliver platform-wide improvements, address technical debt, adopt best practices for code quality, and rework high-complexity portions of the application. Be the voice for long-term interests, ensuring a healthy and supportable system for future growth.
Creating a Culture of Technical Excellence: Set a high bar for code quality, design, and operational readiness. Encourage continuous learning, constructive feedback, and a mindset of experimentation and improvement.
Leading and Growing a High-Performing Team: Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers at various levels, fostering a culture of ownership, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Driving Feature Delivery and Roadmap Execution: Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical strategy and deliver scalable, high-impact features.
Owning and Evolving Core Platform Components: Take responsibility for the design, development, and maintenance of foundational systems powering marketing and advertising technology.
Continuously Improving System Architecture: Identify bottlenecks and lead efforts to modernize and improve the codebase structure.
Championing Engineering Best Practices: Promote standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and reliability. Ensure software is built with resilience, maintainability, and scale in mind.
Measuring and Optimizing Developer Experience: Analyze bottlenecks, implement tools and process improvements, and advocate for investments to increase developer velocity.
Communicating Clearly and Effectively: Provide regular updates to stakeholders, ensuring alignment on priorities, tradeoffs, and timelines.

What skills you need
Leading and growing Engineering Teams: 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams, with a track record of building inclusive, high-performing, and engaged teams.
Strong technical foundation: A background in software engineering with hands-on experience designing and delivering complex systems. You are comfortable diving into technical details when needed.
Expertise in Ruby on Rails: Deep knowledge of Ruby on Rails and experience building and maintaining production-grade Rails applications. You understand Rails conventions and know when to lean into or challenge them.
Experience with Svelte or Other Front-End Frameworks: Familiarity with Svelte or a willingness to learn it. Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks and front-end architecture is a plus.
Excellent communication skills: Able to clearly articulate technical concepts to engineers, product managers, and executives alike. You know how to balance transparency with clarity.
Strong collaboration mindset: Demonstrated ability to partner effectively across disciplines and departments. You value input from others and work well in cross-functional environments.
