Duties and Responsibilities:

  • *Provides professional level assistance in support of cashiering operations to students, parents, faculty, university departments, other institutions and the general public. Resolves problems and discrepancies.
  • Resolves problems with students, parents, faculty, university departments, and third-party vendors, utilizing judgment in making a decision.
  • Determines and analyzes system-type errors, and makes adjustments as required.
  • *Responsible for auditing, correcting and closing cashiering sessions to ensure that transactions are accurate and properly recorded.
  • *Assists in the deposit of other non-tuition receipts.
  • Analyzes student financial services processes and procedures to identify and resolve problems.
  • *Assists with the reconciliation of various financial accounts.
  • Analyzes and reviews various cashiering processes and procedures, payment transaction data and cashiering reports for program effectiveness and recommends improvements and changes.
  • *Responsible for working within third-party systems to record and report 529 plan payments, return checks, tax offsets.
  • *Back-up for other fiscal specialist in daily functions in their absence.
  • *Assists with auditing and reconciling student ACH, installment payment plan, and E-commerce transactions.
  • *Supports database application development by analyzing current work processes and identifying tasks that can be automated and analyzes and recommends improvements.
  • Assists in developing and conducting training for university personnel involved in student accounts receivable and cashiering.
  • Assists with reviewing and identifying accounts receivables that are eligible for write-offs.
  • Assists in developing and completing various financial reports for various internal and external entities.
  • *Assists in reviewing and improving process flows related to student financial services.
  • *Assists in developing or modifying internal procedure manual and training material for current systems.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field and 0 year of relevant professional experience with progressive responsibilities for business administration, financial accounting, cashiering, invoicing; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of student services as demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with student services.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of student financial services.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, faculty, staff, community, scholarship agencies, lending and servicing agencies, and federal and state government entities.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Knowledge of the University's student information system and financial accounting system.
  2. Knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and report generation software.
  3. Ability to prioritize work while working on multiple projects and deadlines.
