The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is a state agency responsible for maintaining the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway - two of the busiest toll roads in the United States. POSITION:
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is accepting applications for current and future openings as a Communications Dispatcher in the Operations department, located at the State Traffic Management Center in Woodbridge, NJ.
The Communications Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and clearly disseminating vital, safety related information on the entire roadway, to all interested parties, both Authority employees and external agencies and individuals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Performs two-way multi-channel communications dispatching duties for the entire length of the roadway, with the goal of maximizing the safety of the traveling public at all times. Dispatches Authority Maintenance, Operations, and other departmental staff and equipment to the location required. Coordinates the communications with contractual safety services, such as wreckers and hazardous materials responders in emergency situations.
2.Maintains an accurate and up-to-date knowledge of the roadway to enable the timely delivery of emergency services assets. Communicates with all Authority contracted garages, contract tire services, contract road service, and courtesy patrols to arrange for towing and service of disabled vehicles from Authority property.
3.Operates Authority equipment, including, but not limited to, CRT’s telephones, radio broadcast, and computer input/output devices in an efficient, correct, professional and sage manner.
4.Keeps all related logs, records and other related correspondence updated at all times
5.Performs any and all other related duties as assigned by supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or GED. Preference will be given for additional course work in Communications and/or technical related field
2. Minimum two years professional experience as a fire, police, or ambulance dispatcher.
3. Clear and concise communications skills including voice quality
4. Ability to operate in a high stress environment in a 24 hour/day coverage schedule
5. Valid NJ Driver’s License
BENEFITS & PAY:
Starting pay will be the minimum salary stated in this posting. Determination of shift shall be made following offer of employment. The position will be located at the State Traffic Management Center in Woodbridge, NJ. This position is ineligible for flex time and/or telework. Toll-free commutation is available for employee travel to and from work on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.
This position is represented by IFPTE Local 194.
