Brief Job Description 

The Collier Mosquito Control District is seeking a Laboratory Field Technician I to join our team in supporting research and surveillance programs that protect public health. This position involves both laboratory and field work, including collecting and identifying mosquitoes, conducting disease testing, maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment, and assisting with various research projects. The technician will also contribute to operational support and occasionally participate in outreach and presentations. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, dependable, and interested in mosquito ecology, environmental research, and applied science.

The Person We Are Looking for Will

    • Participates in the execution of relevant research projects (e.g., evaluating trapping methods, mosquito population dynamics, mosquito ecology, and public lands).
    • Assists in the field collection of adult and larval mosquitoes for operational and research purposes.
    • Conducts mosquito trapping, species identification, and systematic cataloging of results.
    • Performs mosquito-borne disease testing of mosquito pools.
    • Process field collections in the laboratory and enter data into computer systems daily.
    • Assists with the inventory of laboratory and surveillance supplies.
    • Assists with the maintenance of the laboratory, insectary, and other research workrooms.
    • Gives presentations related to District research and operations.
    • Assists in the Communications Department when appropriate.
    • Assists the Director of Operations with a variety of operational activities.

What We Would Like You to Have

Must have a High School diploma or equivalent with 3 years of mosquito control or laboratory experience; or B.S. degree in Biology or related science from an accredited college or university.

Experience with integrated pest management practices and mosquito control experience preferred

Must be certified in Public Health Pest Control within 12 months of employment.

This full-time, non-exempt, hourly position offers a competitive wage commensurate with experience and includes performance reviews at 60 days, 90 days, and annually thereafter.
