Adjunct Faculty � Music Industry Specialist
Department: Music Location: Joplin, MOPosition Summary
The Department of Performing Arts at Missouri Southern State University invites applications for a Music Industry Specialist to teach upper-level undergraduate courses in performance-related business and professional development. We seek an individual with significant professional experience in the music industry and/or performing arts management who can prepare students for sustainable careers in today�s evolving entertainment landscape.
Courses to be Taught (Fall/Spring as assigned):
- PERF 402: Mental Skills Training for Performing Artists � Strategies for developing resilience, focus, and performance psychology.
- PERF 442: Business for Performing Artists � Foundations of entrepreneurship, contracts, copyright, and financial management for performers.
- PERF 460: Principles of Arts Management and Administration � introduction to practical skills required for successful management of performing arts organizations.
- PERF 465: Marketing Performing Arts, Culture, and Entertainment � Marketing strategies and audience engagement in the performing arts and entertainment sectors.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned undergraduate courses with a focus on practical application and industry relevance.
- Mentor students preparing for professional careers in music, theatre, and related performance fields.
- Collaborate with faculty in Music, Theatre, and Arts Administration to align course outcomes with departmental goals.
- Stay current with industry trends and integrate real-world case studies, guest speakers, and professional practices into instruction.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives that connect students with the professional performing arts community.
Qualifications
- Master�s degree in Music, Arts Administration, Music Business, Performing Arts, or related field required (Doctorate or terminal degree preferred).
- Significant professional experience in the music industry, performing arts management, or entertainment marketing required.
- Teaching experience at the university level preferred; professional training, workshops, or coaching background considered.
- Strong understanding of current issues in mental skills/performance psychology, arts entrepreneurship, and entertainment marketing.
- Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to student success.
