Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Campus Services Coordinator, the Part-Time Shuttle Bus Driver performs a variety of transportation duties for the University. The driver is responsible for safely transporting students, staff, faculty, and guests, maintaining vehicle safety and cleanliness, and supporting campus events and athletic travel. This position has no direct reports.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide safe and timely shuttle bus service on designated campus and community routes while maintaining schedules.
  • Coordinate fueling of university vehicles; maintain fueling logs and receipts.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report safety, mechanical, or operational issues to supervisor.
  • Maintain vehicles in a clean and presentable condition inside and out.
  • Coordinate vehicle usage for athletics, administration, departmental activities, and student organizations through supervisor.
  • Communicate with Public Safety for vehicle check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Track and manage vehicle keys.
  • Provide transportation services for university guests and official programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, mileage, and service.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
  • Maintain communication with supervisor via University-issued cell phone; promptly report any disruptions or schedule issues.

 

Additional Duties

  • Support campus events as part of the Campus Services team (set up and take down of tables, chairs, and related equipment).
  • Provide shuttle services for athletics teams, including occasional out-of-town travel on evenings and weekends.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by Campus Services leadership.

 

Schedule

  • Part-time position; regular work hours scheduled between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Must be available for holidays and occasional additional assignments as needed.
  • Subject to on-call assignments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class C or B CDL with Passenger Endorsement) with no moving violations for the past 3 years.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional driving, shuttle, or messenger experience.
  • Knowledge of the Missouri State Vehicle Operator’s Manual.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and procedures.
  • Basic vehicle mechanical knowledge.
  • Strong time management and reliability to ensure all transportation services run on schedule.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, courtesy, and customer service orientation at all times.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

 

Physical Requirements & Working Environment

  • Requires lifting, bending, stretching, standing, walking across campus terrain (indoor and outdoor), and climbing stairs.
  • Must be able to step up an 18-inch step to enter/exit vehicles and assist passengers when needed.
  • May be required to use safety equipment such as gloves and back supports.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions while performing job duties.
  • Regular long hours or extended shifts to meet University transportation needs.
