Summary:
Responsible for creating, managing and ensuring the company's compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. Research to identify best practices, analyze to spot issues, lead company safety information campaigns. Ensure that all process of plant and facility operation adhere to all components of company safety policies. Collaborate with the Human Resources department to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal (OSHA) rules, laws, and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including; workplace safety standards of rules and regulations with a focus on their application to employees.
- Conduct regular safety audits, observations, and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions. Routinely follows up to ensure that corrective measures have been implemented.
- Recommend improvements to workplace safety
- Coordinate and deliver EHS training programs to educate employees on workplace and work center safety practices and emergency procedures.
- Provides information (signs, posters, barriers, etc) to warn of potential and actual safety hazard and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
- Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and implement preventive measures; lead investigation and cooperate in the preparation of materials for company, legal, or insurance matters.
- Maintain and update EHS records and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with management and staff to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
- Monitor and report on EHS performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies (EPA or other environmental agencies, fire departments, etc), including community or industry groups, and ensure timely submission of required reports and documentation.
- Conduct Job Hazard Assessments or PHA.
- Other duties may be assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Training and orientating all new hires regarding safety
- Leadership skills such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective professional relationship with employees and managers
Qualifications
Education and / or experience:
Two or Four year degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field with three to five years of experience. In lieu of degree, seven to ten years of experience and a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of safe workplace practices and environmentally friendly strategies. Familiarization with OSHA and EPA regulations and other applicable laws and guidelines. Strong desire for continuous improvement. Above average problem-solving skills and root cause analysis, ability to communicate to all levels of company personnel. Willingness to participate in continuing education classes (BWC or Safety Councils). Experience with Microsoft office products.
