GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Histology Manager with a strong background in laboratory operations, tissues processing, and team leadership. Skilled in managing histology workflows, ensuring quality control, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and optimizing lab efficiency. Adept at mentoring staff, implementing new technologies, and collaborating within the team network. 

  

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 

Director of Clinical Services, Endoscopy Nurse Manager, contracted Medical Director with Advanced Pathology Solutions 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine and complex histology procedures including accessioning, grossing, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and coverslipping. 
  • Ensure accurate specimen identification and proper handling throughout the process. 
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with equipment and staining procedures. 
  • Perform quality control checks on stains and reagents, documenting results and addressing discrepancies. 
  • Manage laboratory supplies and inventory, including ordering and stock rotation as assigned 
  • Coordinate with Endoscopy to ensure timely specimen receipt and reporting 
  • Participate in laboratory improvement initiatives and process optimization in partnership with contracted agencies.
  • Ensure specimens are processed within expected timelines to avoid unnecessary delay to patient results.
  • Ensure adherence to CLIA regulations and laboratory quality standards. 
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures 
  • Review and interpret quality control data, taking corrective actions when necessary 
  • Maintain accurate documentation of procedures and results 



Requirements

  

EDUCATION: 

Clinical education in a Histology Technician School (HT) program accredited by NAACLS or 1 year experience preferred.

Associates in a Laboratory Science or Bachelor of Science with minimal 24 combined chemistry and biology credits, per CLIA Guidelines §493.1489 for high complexity testing personnel required. College transcript verification is required. 


EXPERIENCE: 

1 year experience in a histology laboratory performing embedding and microtomy. 


REQUIREMENTS:

HT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP) or eligible preferred.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess a wide range of knowledge in grossing and histology laboratory techniques.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to file slides or cassettes appropriately.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of microtomy and embedding techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work as a team member and possess a positive attitude, even in high stress situations.
  • Focused and well-organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Abide by all HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA guidelines and laws.
  • Keep annual training such as HIPAA and Bloodborne certificates up to date.
  • Keep licensing up to date (if applicable)
  • Maintain routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and document appropriately.
  • Follow proper procedure for disposal of laboratory waste.
