Transportation Manager
The primary purpose of the Route Supervisor is to provide guidance and leadership to the drivers, ensuring that customer needs are met and exceeded.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage daily route operations as follows:
- Ensure that adequate staffing exists through effective scheduling.
- Ensure that all drivers are adequately trained on paperwork procedures by individual training
- Ensure that all paperwork is complete at day’s end and turned in to corporate as necessary.
- Hold routine team meetings
- Responsible for basic vehicle maintenance to ensure compliance with DOT regulations:
- Ensure that trucks receive routine maintenance.
- Ensure that trucks are kept in an acceptable, respectable fashion.
- Complete DIVRs in a timely and accurate manner.
- Communicate any other necessary DOT information to Safety Coordinator in an expeditious manner.
- Ride along on a routine basis with drivers. Provide summary reports to Service Manager on their progress and developmental needs.
- Work with Sales/Service Reps to handle routine customer requests or issues, or communicate with appropriate individual to ensure that customer requests are consistently met in a timely manner:
- Work directly with drivers on basic customer service issues such as additional products, etc.
- Maintain appropriate records on each customer issue for historical purposes.
- Ensure that Route Truck Drivers are adequately trained:
- Routinely train and acquaint all drivers with Crown customer service expectations and their decision making accountability related to that service.
- Ensure that all drivers are well versed on paperwork and record keeping requirements by coordinating training.
- Ensure that all drivers are familiar with the work flow in the plant so that they can confidently converse with customers
- Serve as a role model for drivers regarding service mentality and technical competence.
- Responsible for communicating and monitoring driver safety issues:
- Work collaboratively with Safety Coordinator to plan safety meetings and communications for drivers.
- Ensure that hepatitis vaccines are managed properly.
- Handle administrative duties as needed:
- Enter quit stops into the system.
- Ensure that new accounts are set up properly by the office staff.
- Work with office staff to ensure that route accounting is handled efficiently and accurately.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Any other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without an accommodation.
- At least 3 years experience in a customer service related function
- Previous leadership experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Has succeeded at a job that required attention to detail
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Computer skills
- High School Education or GED, College level coursework preferred

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Must have valid driver’s license, Class E, Class A
- Must have CDL Certification for certain driving positions
- Must have acceptable driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The Route Supervisor will need to be flexible as they may be called upon to fill in on routes when drivers are absent or the workload is heavy.
