High-Level Overview 
The client is a pioneering renewable energy leader in the waste-to-energy sector, transforming organic waste into clean biogas and sustainable power. The company operates a large-scale anaerobic digestion facility in South Africa, generating electricity for export on the national grid, driving both environmental impact and energy innovation. 
 
The client is scaling their biogas plant from 5MW to 9MW, with construction already ~50% complete. They are looking for a Project Construction Manager to take ownership of the final year of delivery, ensuring the expansion meets technical, commercial, and environmental benchmarks. This role requires strong expertise in managing owner’s engineers and complex construction contracts, along with an owner’s rep mindset to enforce deliverables while balancing stakeholder dynamics. The role also includes oversight of permitting and contractor coordination, and ensuring compliance with technical, commercial, and environmental standards.

Key Deliverables: 
  • Lead construction of anaerobic digestion plants Manage project charter, scope, milestones, and budgets 
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities 
  • Oversee all procurement activities and vendor relationships Engage with Eskom and relevant authorities for energy export agreements 
  • Embed health, safety, and environmental (HSSE) culture and compliance Ensure successful project integration into operational environment 
  • Deliver detailed reporting on cost, schedule, and risks Maintain strong stakeholder relations and community engagement
  • Execute project close-out and lessons learned documentation 

Requirements

Experience Required: 
  • Degree or B-Tech in Engineering or related field 
  • Professional certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP) 
  • At least 8 to 10 years’ experience of managing infrastructure projects of minimum budget of circa R300 million each, through concept, feasibility and execution phases 
  • Biogas plant or power project development experience 
Technical Requirements:
  • Project Management – Planning, risk assessment, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination. 
  • Financial & Commercial Acumen – Budgeting, financial systems, and commercialisation processes. 
  • Construction & Risk Management – Overseeing construction strategies, cost control, and risk mitigation. 
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge – Understanding legislation, permits, and company policies. 
  • Technical & Engineering Oversight – Managing site studies, feedstock assessments, and FEED processes.
