1Position Summary
Reporting to the Manger, Cultural Services, this position is responsible for the planning, operation, budgeting, and evaluation of the business administration for theatre operations at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton (FOACM) in compliance with Town policies and procedures. This position provides oversight for the FOACM performance season along with leadership for FOACM facility rentals, arts and gallery program planning, and supports new initiatives to enhance the Town’s arts programs and services guided by the Council approved Culture Plan.Major Job Responsibilities
Supervises and provides day-to- day guidance and leadership to full-time and part-time employees and volunteers within the Culture Department
Acts as a liaison for FOACM with Ontario Presents (Ontario Performing Arts Presenting Network) and agencies to research and prepare recommendations for the FOACM performance season
Oversees FOACM facility rentals including adherence to key policies and procedures (i.e., space allocation, cash handling, permit execution)
Approves all theatre rentals ensuring balanced offerings
Facilitates rental client meetings to understand event needs and assess levels of support required in relation to technical operations, front of house, marketing, and ticketing services
Works with the Communications & Customer Experience Division to develop marketing and sales materials to achieve program and event objectives
Participates in programming and marketing initiatives to plan innovative strategies to achieve or exceed sales goals
Initiates customer satisfaction surveys, reviews and analyzes responses, and develops action plans to address areas of concern
Oversees adherence to contractual obligations stipulated by shows in the FOACM performance season, including coordination of riders
Provides input and support into community engagement strategies including audience development at FOACM
Responsible for box office/front of house operations including the scheduling and permitting of FOACM rentals
Collaborates with the Coordinator, Concessions to oversee the concessions and bar operations at the FOACM
Fosters partnerships to enrich the development of new or enhanced programs and services based on needs/business cases
Responsible for the facilitation of the ArtSparks program and the planning and implementation of arts programs for schools and the community
Responsible for the planning and implementation of the gallery program, including allocation of gallery spaces, Town hosted exhibitions, and the supervision of gallery volunteers
Builds and maintains relationships with local community organizations, regional service providers and community agencies that provide Milton residents with recreation and cultural programs and services
Develops, updates and recommends policies, standard operating procedures, processes and standards in the delivery of arts/gallery programs with adherence to Town policy, procedures, and business processes
Assists with Culture Plan initiatives where applicable
Maintains current knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations and related policies based on best practices and industry standards
Leads and/or participates in planning studies to assess, inform, and define future service requirements (feasibility studies and strategies as recommended in Master Plans, etc.)
Supports team members responsible for the hiring, training, performance management and coaching/mentoring of full-time program employees and oversees the same for part-time program employees and volunteers
Prepares and recommends annual operating budgets for assigned areas of responsibility (front of house, concessions/bar, arts programs, galleries, ArtSparks), presenting pressures, opportunities and areas of significant change to Manager to ensure fiscal responsibility
Recommends fees for programs/services with an understanding of market value and fiscal responsibility
Education & Experience
Post-secondary diploma in Arts and Culture Administration, Business/Arts Administration, Events Administration, or related field from a recognized institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
Post-secondary degree in Arts and Culture Administration, Business/Arts Administration, Events Administration, or related field is preferred
Minimum of five (5) years progressive supervisory experience in a municipal, recreational, or cultural setting
Minimum of three (3) years of experience booking professional performing artists; five (5) of experience is preferred
Experience within the arts/entertainment sector including performance facilities, programming and audience development
Solid knowledge of theatre operations, with a focus on business administration and organizational processes
Municipal theatre experience is an asset
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and provide superior customer service
Strong leadership and supervisory skills
Experience with managing gallery operations
Knowledge of TixHub ticketing software
Proficiency in Recreation Management Software and financial/budgeting software
Proficiency in Human Resources Information System (HRIS) software is preferred
Standard First Aid and CPR-C, SmartServe, and Safe Food Handling Certification
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
