The Contract Specialist will partner closely with in-house Legal Counsel, Vice Presidents, Field Leadership, Veterinarian Recruiters, and Hospital Leaders to ensure contracts address compensation models, benefits, restrictive covenants, and jurisdiction-specific provisions. This role may also assist with post-employment contract review and enforcement actions when needed.
Success in this position requires strong collaboration across multiple departments, including Talent Acquisitions, Business Development, People Solutions, Payroll, Finance, and Operations to ensure all agreements are delivered accurately, on time, and in support of the company’s growth strategy.
Job Summary: The Contract Specialist plays a key role in managing the full lifecycle of employment agreements, primarily for veterinarians. This role is responsible for drafting, revising, and supporting the negotiation and execution of employment agreements, with a focus on aligning contract terms with corporate standards, state-specific legal requirements, and business objectives
Travel required: Minimal-primarily remote role with periodic in-person collaboration
Responsibilities:Essential Functions:
- Uphold and model the Core Values and Mission Statement of SVP + MVP.
- Accurately and effectively draft, modify, and execute Associate and Medical Director Veterinarian employment agreements, including initial agreements and subsequent modifications (e.g., amendments and addendums), while balancing customer service, business needs, regulatory compliance, and employee considerations.
- Partner with Vice Presidents, Field Leaders, Veterinarian Recruiters, Hospital Leaders, and other stakeholders to understand contract requirements and ensure alignment with company standards.
- Support contract-related discussions, including negotiation preparation and clarification of terms.
- Manage standards for contract formats, and templates including presentation of comparisons, terms, general language, and provisions.
- Draft and secure approval for customized contract language or non-standard provisions.
- Conduct clinical, administrative, and operational research as necessary to inform contract development and support business decisions.
- Analyze contract language, including terms and conditions, to ensure alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Ensure all contracts and related documents are securely maintained, organized, and accessible in accordance with company standards.
Additional Functions:
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience managing the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, structuring, negotiating guidance, and overseeing employment agreements.
- Experience with electronic Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) platforms; DocuSign CLM strongly preferred, including template development and workflow configuration.
- Working knowledge of physician or veterinary employment agreements, including compensation models (e.g., production/pro-sal model), benefit structures, restrictive covenants (non-compete, non-solicit, confidentiality), and state-specific regulatory considerations.
- Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and revising contract terms to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws, veterinary practice acts, and corporate policies.
- Experience partnering with in-house legal counsel on contract enforcement matters, including providing support in reviewing employment agreements for post-employment compliance.
- Proficient in navigating diverse compensation structures, including base salary, production-based pay, bonuses, and other customized financial components outlined in employment agreements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex issues, draw sound conclusions, and implement effective solutions.
- Proven ability to build trust and credibility across cross-functional teams; engages collaboratively and productively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrates strong business acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to balance competing business and employee needs.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise, and easily understandable manner.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, set clear deadlines, and drive projects to completion.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Prior experience with contract management systems, electronic document workflows and template development are highly desirable.
