Summary: The Annis Water Resources Institute is seeking a research technician. This individual will work closely with Dr. Stuart Jones to advance aquatic research locally and globally. The position will emphasize questions focusing on regulation of lake primary productivity and water quality with a mix of field-, lab-, and office-based work.
The Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI) is a world-class research facility situated on Muskegon Lake in Muskegon, MI, on the shores of Lake Michigan. The institute houses a dozen faculty, numerous research staff, and a robust graduate program. Located 30 miles from the main Grand Valley State University campus, AWRI maintains state-of-the-art analytical and molecular laboratories, a mesocosm facility, and two research vessels. Primary Duties:
- oversee field sampling in coordination with watershed and lake groups
- facilitate student involvement in field and lab research
- manage lab activities and supplies
- collaborate with institute staff responsible for chemical analyses and data management
Secondary Duties: data analysis and publication
Required qualifications:
- bachelor’s degree in a STEM field
- experience with the R programming language
- experience conducting field aquatic ecology fieldwork
- desire to work in a collaborative environment
- strong project management skills
- the ability to work independently and meticulously
Preferred qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in biology, ecology, or environmental engineering
- experience analyzing long-term datasets
- experience with molecular or eDNA approaches
- demonstrated success working in a collaborative setting
- demonstrated success in project management
- previous work with geospatial tools and analysis
Salary: $35,568 - $45,000, commensurate with experience
