Job Title
Automation Technician - Plant 22 ThomsonPosition Overview
Position Objective: To perform the functions of an Automation Technician.
Responsibilities: Perform the functions of an Automation Technician.
Essential Duties (considering job knowledge, job environment, effort,
manipulative skill, judgment, safety knowledge and responsibility):
1. Comply with procedures found in SMS
2. Perform all job duties using safe work methods.
3. Comply with Corporate Absenteeism and Tardiness Policy.
4. Work normally scheduled days adhering to starting and stopping times. Work overtime as required.
5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
6. Troubleshoot Automation System problems and facilitate necessary repairs. Determine the cause of Automation System failures and take necessary steps to prevent a recurrence. Determine if mechanical or electrical conditions exist that cause Automation System failures and communicate the problem to the proper personnel.
7. Responsible for documentation and communication of all new, upgraded, or revised software, programs, and communication equipment delivered.
8. Will follow up on work tasks performed to be sure that they have been done correctly.
9. Responsible for the Automation System support during off shift working hours. Should assistance be needed to make off shift repairs, contact the proper personnel.
10. Maintain a clean and safe work area and perform all work in a safe manner. Follow the Lockout and Tag-out procedures when performing work on equipment. Should management request that you perform an unsafe practice, you should contact the plant Engineer for approval.
11. Willing to work various hours on any shift or shifts as may be needed.
12. Will be available "on call" during scheduled times. During the "on call" times, individual will be available to provide advice, assistance, and physical support if the problem requires.
13. Attend meetings concerning department or plant as required.
14. Ensure all plant rules and safety rules are being followed
15. Use Six Sigma Tools for continuous improvement
16. Perform audits as required.
17. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with instructions, work orders, and service manuals.
18. Assist other maintenance department personnel as needed.
19. Must be able to work at different heights and work from a lift truck basket or ladder as needed.
20. Active member of TPM activities.
21. Manage projects from initial scope development to completion of installation
22. Must be able to troubleshoot PLC ladder logic in both Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms
23. Must be able to write ladder logic in both languages
24. Must be able to troubleshoot communication issues with equipment in the facility.
25. Create, maintain, and enforce automation and electrical standards for Plant 22.
26. Coach and mentor Electricians.
27. Scope, create, and execute capital projects.
Non-Essential Duties (considering job knowledge, job environment, effort, manipulative skill, judgment, safety knowledge and responsibility):
1. Assist other Automation personnel as needed.
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to sit, stand or walk for eight (8) to twelve (12) hours.
2. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift, carry and reach occasionally.
3. Ability to lift and carry packages weighing up to twenty-five (30) pounds frequently.
Training Requirements:
1. Must complete New Hire Orientation.
2. Must complete job requirements training as defined in the Training Program Manual.
3. Must complete PRIDE Training.
4. Must complete SAFE Training
5. Must complete SMS Training.
Tools, Equipment, & Material Requirements:
1. Responsible for safety equipment issued including safety glasses and earplugs.
2. Responsible for materials and supplies issued.
3. Responsible for equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.
4. Follow all applicable environmental efforts and procedures for proper disposal of used materials.
Safety & Security Requirements:
1. Must maintain a safe and clean work area at all times.
2. Must report any unsafe conditions to supervision.
3. Must report all accidents, no matter how slight, to supervision immediately.
4. Must wear personal protective equipment at all times while in the designated areas.
5. Must comply with all plant and department safety rules and regulations.
