About The Role

As a part of the Shopify Solutions Engineering team, the Solutions Architect role brings deep subject-matter expertise and a desire to engage challenging technical requirements with both prospective and existing merchants. We are looking for someone with strong experience in managing architectural meetings with a very technical audience and a deep understanding of retail and order fulfillment concepts. You will have the unique opportunity to help shape the commerce strategy of some of most notable merchant brands across a number of industries including fashion, health & beauty, hi-tech and more.

The Solutions Architect role will be primarily focussed on pre-sales activities but will also spend a portion of their time helping existing large merchants continue to grow and succeed on the Shopify platform. The Solutions Architect will focus on our largest and most complex deals, partnerships and deployments by assisting regional teams across North America.

Projects, activities, and expectations of your role include:

  • Engage with our most strategic and largest merchants at any point in their journey from a technical requirements perspective
  • Partner with Solutions Engineers and fellow Solutions Architects in conducting requirements discovery, solution presentations and various workshop formats
  • Assist the merchant (or their chosen technology partners) on technical design of third-party applications or customized solutions extending Shopify’s platform that address critical business requirements.
  • Align with Product Management teams on Shopify’s enterprise product roadmap while sharing feedback on released features and merchant trends
  • Being an expert on the Shopify Retail and Fulfillment
  • Mentor and coach other merchant facing teams at Shopify on technical aspects of our platform
  • Develop reusable assets that illustrate best-practices to help upskill merchant-facing teams on Shopify’s platform or relevant industry


What you bring:

  • Min 5 years of experience in Solutions Engineering, Agency Consulting, Commerce Operations or Retail Operations
  • Solid understanding and experience with Enterprise Retail solutions such as Shopify, Oracle xStore, Aptos, NCR, Retail Pro, Cegid
  • Solid understanding OMS/DOM platforms such as Manhattan OMS, Oracle OMS, Aptos OMS
  • Solid understanding of payment processing solutions such as Stripe, Adyen, TSYS, Auth.net, FiPay
  • Solid understanding of Commerce related concepts such as Retail Operations, Warehouse operations, Inventory Management, Order Routing Rules and Shipping
  • Solid understanding of cloud-based technologies and SaaS fundamentals
  • Solid understanding of technical strategy as it relates to operating and growing omni-channel businesses
  • Great troubleshooting and analytical skills combined with the desire to tackle challenges head-on
  • Passion to collaborate in a team-selling environment and share your expertise to help others learn
  • Experience in consulting highly technical audiences & executives
  • A great video conference presence with confidence and business acumen
  • Ability to travel 1-3 times per quarter within Canada and the United States
