We are looking for a Data & Applied Scientist II to join our team! Microsoft Cloud Security is a leader in cybersecurity, our team Semantic Threat Intelligence & Knowledge Services is on mission to empower security organizations to understand and defend against an ever-changing threat landscape. We execute on this mission by turning the internet’s data into information and actionable truth that in-turn allows our products to enable its users to collect, analyze, discover, and share. We are looking for a skilled Data & Applied Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will leverage advanced machine learning algorithms and large language models (LLMs) to analyze vast amounts of data and generate actionable insights for our customers. You will be involved in projects from initial concept through to production, collaborating with fellow Data Scientists to consistently deliver valuable solutions to our customers. Responsibilities

Participates in collaborative relationships with relevant product and business groups inside or outside of Microsoft and provides expertise or technology to create business impact. Collaborates with and bridges the gap between researchers (e.g., in community, Microsoft Research [MSR], or in their own organizations) and development teams. With limited guidance from others, works to create product impact. Gains expertise in one or more subareas of research. Gains deep knowledge in a service, platform, or domain and acquires knowledge of changes in industry trends and advances in applied technologies. Applies strategy by understanding the role in the team and applying the strategy provided by senior team members and incorporates state-of-the-art research. Researches and develops an understanding of tools, technologies, and methods being used in the community that can be utilized to improve product quality, performance, or efficiency. Reinforces a positive environment by applying best practices. Performs documentation of work in progress, experimentation results, plans, etc. Understands and follows ethics and privacy policies when executing research processes and/or collecting data/information. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, information retrieval, and recommendation systems, and contribute to the company's intellectual property through patents and publications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • o OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • o OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
    • o OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • o OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • o OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • o OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience creating publications (e.g., patents, peer-reviewed academic papers).
Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
