The Position:
The position of Digital Learning Support Technologist is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Milpark's digital learning systems. Reporting to the Digital Learning Support Manager, this role is crucial for delivering and improving online learning by effectively using digital tools, learning platforms, and educational technologies.
Responsibilities include managing educational technology applications, handling data, administering the Student Information System (SIS), and configuring the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), as well as supporting other tech tools and plugins. This role requires close collaboration with academic staff, IT teams, and other key stakeholders to implement and maintain digital learning solutions, ensuring the seamless operation of VLEs and upholding high standards of service delivery for both staff and students.
The Digital Learning Support Technologist is required to have/develop a solid understanding of all software, educational technology tools and system integrations as they impact on digital learning systems at Milpark. They are also expected to be well versed in all policies impacting course rollout and associated configuration and support activities. This position may also include the mentoring of new hires on the team where applicable to ensure that high standards of service delivery are maintained throughout.
Key Responsibilities:
Overall:

- Participate in the development of departmental and interdepartmental checklists and workflows.
- Adhere to checklists, standards, workflow processes, legislation, policies, and procedures to safeguard Milpark and ensure efficiency that will limit unnecessary costs.
- To assist with all data, clean up exercises as required.
System maintenance, provisioning, integration and configuration
- Administer and integrate data from the Student Information System (SIS) with the VLE and other digital platforms.
- Manage the configuration of all new programmes and modules in SAM as per applicable checklists, for all programmes across all faculties.
- Ensure that all required data is accurately captured and maintained.
- Monitor data flows, ensuring accuracy and reliability, and troubleshoot integration issues as needed.
- Responsible for daily housekeeping and editing functions in SAM including editing of exam dates, formative dates, venues and pricing as required.
- Update digital records, configurations, and system access permissions to maintain data integrity and security
- Manage annual configuration and provisioning requirements for each academic year, for all programmes across all faculties.
- Ensure that all required information is obtained and accurately captured prior to the commencement of the next academic cycle.
- Ensure that all student data is kept up to date and accurate for reporting purposes.
- Manage all website reports linking to SAM.
- Responsible for the provisioning of new course pages for modules in the relevant VLE as per checklist and workflow, for all programmes across all faculties.
- Ensure that all required data is accurately captured and maintained.
- Manage course page daily maintenance in the relevant VLE including the editing of test dates, formative dates and exam dates as required.
- Responsible for annual uploading of assignments and online tests requirements for each academic year, for all modules across all faculties.
- Responsible for running test scenarios on course configuration against the schedule provided to identify and troubleshoot errors.
- Manage schedules and timelines proactively obtain requirements needed for configuration and to follow up on outstanding requirements in line with the workflow documentation.
Digital Learning Platform management and support
- Oversee and maintain the VLE and other digital learning tools.
- Ensure the VLE and associated platforms are reliable, accessible, and user-friendly.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to maintain a seamless learning experience for all users through queries and reports requested by internal staff and students via the ticketing system.
- Ensure that all student data is kept up to date and accurate for reporting purposes.
- Administer, configure, and troubleshoot the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and associated digital learning tools.
- Provide user support for students, faculty, and staff, addressing technical challenges and usage inquiries.
- Ensure all learning platforms are accessible, user-friendly, and meet technical performance standards.
Collaboration with Project and IT Teams
- Collaborate with IT to identify and implement digital tools that support effective teaching and learning.
- Participate in testing and piloting new tools or upgrades to improve the learning platform experience.
- Work closely with project and IT teams to integrate digital learning applications and tools

Requirements:
Education:
- Minimum requirement: Matric Certificate
- Tertiary Qualification/Certification or progress towards a qualification in any of the following focus areas would be advantageous:
- Educational Technology
- Information Technology
- Computer Science
- Instructional Technology
- Administration
- Education with a focus on Technology Integration
- Platform specific certifications (Moodle/Canvas/Blackboard/D2L)
- IT Support certifications (IT Fundamentals/IT Support)
- Any other certification relevant to the role.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in supporting staff and students in an administrative capacity
- Experience in a higher education institution will be advantageous
- Roles in technical support, helpdesk, student or staff support or educational technology will be valuable experience for this position.
Skills:
- Advanced computer literacy skills especially in Microsoft applications is essential
- Technical proficiency with digital learning tools and educational software is preferred
- Experience in administrating Virtual Learning Environments
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Basic Coding Skills (HTML, Javascript or CSS) will be advantageous
- Familiarity with Data Management is essential
- Understanding of data integration between learning systems and Student Information Systems (SIS) is advantageous.
- Detail-orientated with strong organizational abilities is essential
