About The RoleShopify’s mission is to make commerce better for everyone. A Technical Architect (WebPerformance) makes commerce better for everyone by making storefronts faster, bounce less and convert more.Technical Architects have an appreciation for Web Performance. They engage with merchants providing sound direction, proof of concepts, and/or advice on how to speed up stores. Working with new and existing merchants, Technical Architects provide expertise in both long term projects and shorter term engagements. Great communication skills are essential.This role offers the opportunity to work directly with merchants. A Technical Architect should take learnings from merchant engagements and take them back to the wider team. They should identify larger opportunities for performance and be thinking about the bigger picture at all times.If you are a front end developer looking to specialize in the web performance space, this is the ideal role for you.Your responsibilities:

• Support our global merchant base by speeding up their stores as part of paid engagements
• Provide merchants with best practice advice and direction based on your expertise
• Scale learnings from engagements to make Shopify better for all merchants
• Manage stakeholder expectations throughout engagements
• Engage with both technical and non-technical merchant stakeholders

Technical experience

• Front end development including HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Understanding how a browser works
• Involvement in at least one front end performance project
• Experience in performance debugging using DevTools, WebPageTest, RUM solutions
• Comfortable navigating and using GitHub
• Should enjoy investigating and solving complex performance issues
• REACT/Remix experience is an advantage but not necessary
• Experience with Liquid or Shopify storefronts is a bonus
