Award-winning charity Wild Things is seeking new trustees from a wide variety of personal and professional backgrounds. This is a unique opportunity to join a leading environmental education charity working across Scotland and the UK.

You will play an essential role in ensuring the charity is running as it should, that it represents its beneficiaries and that the organisation remains true to its mission and objectives as well as ensuring that the charity’s activities remain transparent and are sensibly managed. You will also contribute your professional expertise to all strategic decision-making of the board.

What are we looking for?

2.0 Person Specification Essential Committed and dedicated to organisation’s cause and objectives. Demonstrable expertise and wisdom regarding one or more of the following areas Finance; Environmental Sciences; Ecology; Business Development; Entrepreneurialism; Marketing; Digital; Change Management; Charity Leadership; Social Care (either/or youth and older person focused); Working with Young People (Primary and/or Secondary Education); Health & Wellbeing; Strategy & Governance; Fundraising; Legal; Risk Management. Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement. A team-orientated approach to problem solving and to management. Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. Good communication and leadership skills Competent use of email, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel). Desirable Knowledge of charity Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) and any impending changes. Knowledge and experience of charity finance practices. Willing to act as the charity’s ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.

What will you be doing?

The board of trustees is currently seeking new members from a wide variety of personal and professional backgrounds to join the board. Wild Things is at an exciting time in its development. With the potential development of a new Environmental Action and Learning Centre in discussion. Trustees play an essential role in the governance of Wild Things, working as a team to define the organisation’s strategic direction and to support and champion the work of the charity. 1. Responsibilities In partnership with other trustees you will Govern and have a keen focus on protecting the assets of the charity, ensuring it operates within the law and that standards of best practices are upheld in operations and service delivery. Have a focus on the long-term goals and objectives, ensuring the organisation remains true to its charitable mission and looks ahead at opportunities that enhance the value of its services. Monitor and protect the financial standing of the charity including maintaining oversight of the management accounts and ensuring the organisation meets its financial obligations. Provide guidance to the CEO on matters relating to your own specific area of expertise. Represent the interests of Wild things! beneficiaries at a strategic level (including benefits to communities and to the natural environment) Supporting the new CEO in developing ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the charity’s work.
