We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is passionate about making a difference, to join our busy Economy Team.

Torbay is changing. We are delivering significant regeneration, skills and place-based projects to transform the area and develop the local economy. You can play an important role in this transformation. 

You will join an experienced, pro-active and friendly Economy Team responsible for delivering Torbay’s Economic Growth Strategy 2022-30. Through a range of projects designed to drive economic growth, we support communities, businesses, people and skills development.

This role may be particularly suitable if you are in the early stages of your career, you are exploring a new career path or are returning to the workplace after a break, whatever the reason. Importantly, you will help us deliver a range of exciting projects to develop Torbay’s economy, making a positive impact and difference to local people’s
lives.

Projects include:
  • Supporting delivery of our Community Wealth Building initiative including the annual Torbay Jobs Fair.
  • Working closely with council colleagues, place partners and businesses to develop and support initiatives such as Social Value, local purchasing, events and increasing local wealth.
  • Managing various data platforms for Torbay and producing reports.
  • Supporting team colleagues with the delivery of the Economic Growth Strategy.
Your skills, knowledge and experience will help support the delivery of these projects and help transform Torbay. You will also have the opportunity to manage and develop your own projects aligned to Torbay’s Economic Growth Strategy.

This position is for a fixed term of 24 months from the start date.

Skills

Essential:
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with and present to a range of audiences. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. 
  • Ability to identify and interpret key trends from economy data and produce reports summarising those trends.
  • An understanding of project management techniques and methodologies with good working practices.
  • Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks and resolve conflicting priorities.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Knowledge

Essential:
  • Knowledge and experience of economic development issues and a good understanding of the policy context.
  • Knowledge of economic strategy and policy development and delivery.
  • A demonstrable understanding of the statistics and data sources used to inform economic development policy.
  • A good knowledge of social media platforms and how they may be used for effective communication.
  • A good knowledge of mainstream UK funding streams.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:
  • Proven experience in Economic Development or a similar or related field.
  • Successful delivery of projects against deadlines and stated outcomes.
  • Experience of developing and managing projects working in partnership.
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent.
