The Network Facilities Technician II, performs installations, turn-ups, testing, break fixes, maintenance and monitoring of equipment at an intermediate level of proficiency in a Critical Facilities 24X7, on-demand environment. The incumbent performs the maintenance, troubleshooting and restoration of all network technology functionality; by conducting scheduled and routine performance tests on all hardware and equipment, installing, activating, modifying, repairing, maintaining, and aligning equipment per business needs and providing technical support for all services offered using established processes, scripts, and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Performs the validation of work packages, executing project MOPs with boundary partners.
- Performs validation and authentication of the operational performance of network systems equipment, ensuring compliance with design specifications and quality of service targets, by utilizing appropriate test equipment and management platform practices.
- In response to alarms or outage notifications, analyzes and troubleshoots problems for quick resolution in conjunction with regional or enterprise-wide Network Operations Centers (NOCs) to restore service or escalate the issue as appropriate.
- Ensures the installation, documentation, turn-up and maintenance of circuits and equipment conform to company standards.
- Performs the execution of network installations by studying work packages, bill of materials, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, and assessing installation, site preparation and installation diagrams.
- Establishes and installs network connections, terminating, and labeling cables. Installs telecommunications equipment, following industry and Cox standards.
- Verifies service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms and, subsequently identifying and correcting or escalating problems.
- Updates tools and documentation according to Cox standards (TSP)
- Maintains network by testing network back-up procedures and troubleshooting or repairing outages.
- Maintains internal and external customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns and answering questions.
- Must be able to communicate, collaborate and provide timely updates to all boundary partners in a professional and respectful manor
- Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to fire suppression, Security access systems, HVAC, PPE, OSHA
- Keeps supplies ready by maintaining appropriate inventory of stock, placing orders when necessary, and verifying receipt through Oracle/WATTS or other means.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications and taking advantage of other training opportunities.
- Implements Workflow work orders and is familiar with Remedy and able to create Remedy tickets
- Participates in the completion of PIR’s as needed.
- Participates in a stand-by rotation to provide 24/7 coverage.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
- High School Diploma, GED, or relevant work experience
- 3 years or more year of experience preferred as a Networks facilities Technician 1 or in a related field
- Basic understanding of the operation and principles of generators, power systems, fire systems, HVAC and Cold Air containment.
- Performs testing of RF, Ethernet, Fiber Optic cables
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid local State Driver’s License with driving record that meets Cox standards
- Ability to use various video, data, fiber, and RF test equipment
- Knowledge of signal flow layout of Critical Facilities
- Understanding of Critical Facility planned maintenance and monitoring needs
- Basic understanding of earth stations, over the air/free space signal flow and associated equipment
- Understanding of FCC EAS requirements
- Proficient in Word/Excel and any other programs necessary to perform responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of WATTS and Remedy to be able to accept work assignments.
Preferred
- AS/AA or Technical Certification in related discipline strongly desired (i.e., electronics)
- Industry certifications (SCTE, BCT, BCE, NCTI, BICSI, Telcordia GR 1275 etc.)
- Working knowledge of Cox specifications as they relate to all Telecomm Facilities
- Understanding of and ensuring the compliance to all applicable FCC regulations
- Knowledge of Network monitoring and tracking tools related to troubleshooting, along with monitoring tools like a Building Management Systems (BMS) for Critical Facilities infrastructure
- Proficient in PowerPoint/Visio
