What you will do:

The Systems Administrator is focused on managing our on-premises infrastructure as well as our Microsoft Azure cloud services.

The ideal candidate will ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security of our systems, supporting our day-to-day business operations. Additionally, this role requires keen attention to monitoring our environment to proactively address and mitigate potential issues.

This is a hybrid position. Office location is 1303 Yonge Street, Toronto.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and Troubleshooting: Provide second-level support to end-users for hardware, software, and network issues. Troubleshoot complex issues escalated from first-level support.
  • Monitoring and Performance Tuning: Monitor system performance using various tools. Identify, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software, or network problems. Suggest improvements to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Security Management: Participate in the implementation of IT security strategies, including firewalls, anti-virus solutions, and patch management to protect data and infrastructure. Ensure
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures. Generate regular reports on system status, performance metrics, and improvement plans.
  • Automation and Scripting: Utilize scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Azure CLI) to automate routine tasks, increasing efficiency and reducing human error.
  • Project Participation: Collaborate on IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and the deployment of new technologies and services.
  • Cloud Services Administration: Manage Azure cloud services, including but not limited to, VMs, Azure Entra ID, Azure Storage, Azure Local. Ensure efficient operation and cost-effectiveness of cloud resources.

Education & Certification

  • University/College education in computer science or relevant work experience
  • Commvault Certified Engineer
  • Microsoft Azure Cloud Certification

Experience

  • At least 4 years of experience Administering Backup Infrastructure both on-premises and in cloud (ideally with Commvault)
  • At least 2 years experience working with Cloud Storage as a backup repository
  • At least 2 years of Backup Design and Configuration
  • At least 2 years Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity Experience
  • At least 2 years experience with Monitoring and Automation
  • At Least 2 years experience with PowerShell and good understanding of Terraform
  • At least 2 years Recommending and Implementing new solutions
  • At least 2 years experience with VMWare, Citrix
  • At least 2 years experience with Microsoft SQL server administration
  • At least 2 years experience with Microsoft Hyper- and Azure Azure Stack HCI (also known as Azure local)
  • At least 3 years experience with Microsoft Active Directory Group policies/Permissions, Microsoft Exchange/O365
  • At least 2 years experience with DELL servers
  • Good knowledge and understanding of network related systems, Switches, Firewalls, Access Points, DHCP/DNS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be proactive and possess strong interpersonal, customer service, communication, and organizational skills
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • Must be able to operate in a busy environment and manage multiple projects and change with shifting priorities
  • Must be able to design, prepare and conduct new technology evaluations to determine infrastructure solutions based on business requirements and make recommendations for improvement of infrastructure, technology, operational capability, reliability and performance
  • Must possess design and documentation skills
  • Must be able to be on call on a rotational basis
  • Good knowledge of industry standards, legislation and best practices (e.g. ITIL)
  • Must have Strong Project Management Skills
