Main Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Belgium Accounting Supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting with a broad range of duties that includes:
Responsible for the day-to-day accounting and compliance execution for all Belgium legal entities
Ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions
Preparation and posting of monthly general journals, including those for fixed assets, payroll etc.
Preparation and posting prepayments and accruals
Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including bank and intercompany reconciliations
Preparation of month cash flow forecasts and liaising with Treasury team, to ensure sufficient funding
Working knowledge and experience of dealing with multiple foreign exchange currencies
Working closely with project controllers to ensure project returns are received in a timely manner and entered onto the system (Maconomy)
Posting intercompany transactions including recharges and funding
Raising intercompany recharge invoices
Maintaining the fixed assets register and posting monthly additions, disposals and depreciation
Assisting with P&L analytical review, monthly commentaries, as and when required
Assisting with the statutory audit requirements and statutory accounts production
Work and assist the Belgium Financial Controller and Supervisor to challenge, change and improve existing practices, to bring efficiencies in the way we operate
Ensure all Group accounting policies and procedures are robustly adhered to and applied across the region
Completion of VAT returns, as well as having a good working knowledge of Belgium VAT requirements, including domestic and foreign VAT implications
Provide guidance on accounting processes for the relevant businesses
Work with Tax and Treasury teams on related accounting and project initiatives. This could include setting up and maintaining accounting operations surrounding new branch operations of the relevant entities
Working with fellow regional controllers and group accounting teams globally
Skills and Requirements
Is graduated from a Bachelor or Masters in Finance and Accounting
Has an experience as accountant for at least 1-2 years with good knowledge of BE GAAP or an audit background and who would like to take up a new challenge in a multinational company
Have a good understanding of US GAAP (desirable)
Knowledge of an ERP system. Previous experience with Maconomy ERP system, will be advantageous but is not essential
IT proficient - the applicant should have intermediate MS Excel skills including Vlookup and Pivot tables, PowerBI etc
Experience of working in a corporate environment, reporting to an overseas Head Office (desirable)
Proven written and communication skills – the applicant should have the ability to communicate persuasively across a wide range of professional groups
Fluent in French and a very good command of verbal and written English is essential
