Purpose Statement: 

 

The job of Playground Assistant is done for the purpose/s of monitoring students and the recess environment; maintaining playground equipment; and evaluating situations to ensure a safe environment for students, staff and the District. 

This job reports to Building Administrator 

Essential Functions 

  • Maintains recess equipment and playground for the purpose of ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
    Monitors students for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students. 
  • Performs inventory of recess equipment (e.g. balls, cones, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items for students use. 
  • Prepares a variety of reports for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. 
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, and/or parents) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources. 

Other Functions 

  • Assists students with schoolwork for the purpose of providing leadership and guidance. 
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. 

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications. 

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: behavior and crisis management techniques; age appropriate activities; and safety practices and procedures. 

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with other, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating in a positive, non-threatening manner; exhibiting tact and patience; and building effective relationships. 

 

Responsibility 

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; leading, guiding and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. There is a continual opportunity to impact the Organization's services. 

 

Working Environment 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 80% walking and 15% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment. 

 

Experience Job related experience is desired. 

Education High School diploma or equivalent.
