Capital Project Manager Mechanical

Salary Range ($101,000-$134,600) - Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills, and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short–term incentive plan.

The Job You Will Perform:

The successful candidate will manage the development and implementation of capital projects with primarily a Mechanical and Instrumentation focus in support of facility and business unit objectives.  This position will be initially assigned to a Corporate Level $30MM project impacting various process areas of the facility.  This position will also be responsible for managing a typical portfolio of smaller facility level projects up to $10MM, involving ~6-12 additional active projects per year.  This position will report to the Capital Manager, Valliant Mill.

Key Functions (include but not limited to):

• Practicing safety leadership in all aspects of the job.
• Coordination of all phases of capital projects from business justification to start-up including; Business case development, Evaluation and selection of technical alternatives, Development of detailed cost estimates and execution plans, Design engineering, Construction management, Commissioning and start up, Procurement and contract strategies.
• Manage alignment of project goals, expectations, and scope with all stakeholders.
• Ensure all applicable quality specifications are applied, quality assurance testing / inspection is performed at the right time, and installation follows precision guidelines and targets.
• Independently manage projects with responsibility for managing budget, schedule, and delivering technical/business performance.

• Support the skills development of less experienced team members.

• Assure engagement and alignment from required project constituents and team members for all projects, including outside resources such as engineering partners and contractors.

• Overall management of the procurement process including bid analysis (commercial and technical), negotiation and awarding of work associated with the procurement of equipment and services, expediting, factory acceptance activities and resolving contract issues.
• Managing major projects that are engineered by contracted engineering resources, including determining the appropriate engineering deliverables (design and documentation) for assigned projects, management of engineering contractor processes, procedures and workflow, and final transfer/organization of documentation and reference materials.

The Skills You Will Bring:

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent Pulp & Paper experience, relevant industry and/or project management experience preferred
• Minimum of 3 years prior capital project management experience in an industrial environment required
• Skilled computer user and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), AutoCAD, MS Project.  Must be willing and able to learn IP specific software tools (SAP, Unifier, Parkview)
• Demonstrated history of managing complex projects from initiation to successful completion, demonstrating strong leadership and organizational abilities
