Description

Operates the automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment in a continuous loading of salt from a storage bin. Follows process specifications or instructions of operations supervisor. Reports any malfunctions or abnormalities to supervisor. Makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment. Ensures the machinery and safety equipment are in good working order. Must be task trained on all equipment or machinery used in daily work duties.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Performs, under minimum supervision, tasks of substantial variety or complexity which require knowledge of the conveyor systems, loading and shipping requirements, engine repair and equipment relative to salt mining.
• Load bulk salt products into bulk trucks via conveyor system, overhead bins or via loader buckets.
• Calculates bulk loading reports and vehicles weights.
• Communicates with drivers through C/B radio to ensure continuous movement of vehicles in and out of loading area.
• Performs pre-inspection of machinery, storage equipment and all moving mechanical parts.
• Inspect finished product loads and ensure required specifications are met.
• Adhere to safety policies and health regulations.
• Communicates with management any situation that may affect safety of any employee or other issues that affect production or quality of product.
• Inspect and perform daily routine housekeeping as necessary to ensure a clean and safe work area.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
  
  

Requirements:

• Capable of inspecting work area for safety hazards and mitigation as necessary.
• Cleans salt spillage under conveyor belts and along walkways; cleaning requires the employee to use a shovel to remove salt – this would call for the employee to climb ladders, bend, twist and lift the loaded shovel.
• Operate heavy equipment.  Must have good eye-hand coordination to properly manipulate the respective hand controls; requires the employee to fill the equipment, and pump oil, fuel, or compressed air into production equipment – this requires reaching, twisting, bending, and lifting.
• Assist equipment operators and direct them in areas where hazards of scaling, drop offs, and other equipment or structures exist; requires the employee to recognize the hazard, and to verbally communicate.
• Must be able to work productively in a group environment.
• Must be able to work additional hours as required.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
